Just when I think I’m getting the hang of it I see one that stumps me, and in the moment it’s just hard.

What about this guy? I’ve never been moose hunting but I’d guess a little over 50 and I would not be comfortable calling that 4 brows..

I would say 4-5 on his left, depending on whether or not that little one is long enough, and his right is too difficult for me to say for sure. The left side makes him legal regardless of anything else.

Threads like this are both interesting and terrifying. I passed two nice bulls last month in AK due to uncertainty on both spread and browtines. Tag soup, it is.

Hard to tell with the pictures sometimes it looks like 4 or 3 I don’t think I am worried on this one though. He’s plenty wide enough

50" would be pretty close...

Yeah, absolutely no way I’d pull the trigger on that bull, based only on the 50” rule. He definitely looks close to 50, but I would bet $$ he doesn’t make the spread. Obviously, he’s got the brow tines, so he would be legal in the areas requiring at least 4 brow tines, but I really don’t think he’s 50.
Here’s a good video on legal moose in AK.
