Corrugated Metal Roof - Leaking Skylight Repair

You must have different suppliers than I do, or it’s for installations that don’t need to be water tight. I could take 5 minutes and come up with 5 installation manuals that all show screws through the tops of the ridges.

Here’s the very first one I pulled up:

I havent installed much if any I cam remember, corregated fiberglass panels. I see the info you have posted and this leads me to believe whoever installed the stuff I've worked around has always installed it wrong, because I've never seen it screwed on the rib. Only ever seen it screwed on the valley.

The rib makes more sense honestly. It just seems like screwing it there would crush the fiberglass.

You’re not wrong, going through the crown does require a tiny bit more skill, and the correct more expensive screws.

The ridged roof materials all sell a corresponding support strip to sit under the material on a roof joist which makes it possible for screws in the ridge.

There are specific screws and sealants designed for this application....Yeah, they are more expensive than Bathroom silicone....but they work. I've seen them as a special order from Home Cheapo....but best to go to a Roofing supply.
