Rokslide sponsor, Cooper Firearms, has supplied us with a LR52 in 6.5x284 for testing. I've done some initial accuracy testing, and stripped it down for a good look. It's a pretty sweet rifle! In the next month or so, I'll be working on shaking it down for accuracy and consistency, as well as some "exterior ballistics testing" in Wyoming on speed goats. In November, my kids and I will test it out on North Idaho whitetails. I plan to do two separate reviews on this rifle; one from a raw accuracy/reliability/handling standpoint, the other revolving around actually hunting at long range with it. It's going to be fun:cool:

Nice. I feel sorry that you have to suffer through this effort. Looking forward to the results.

This rifle has been in the back of my mind since the first mention of it on here. I'm pretty sure I will have one at some point...:)

I am really looking forward to your reviews, Sam.

Also, Sam, do you know if Cooper is offering a selection of twist rates in the barrels for a given caliber with the Long Range rifle?

I don't know. If Cooper doesn't come on the thread and answer, I'll add that question to my list.

Thank you Sam. Looking forward to your review! I have a loaded up Excalibur in 338win on the way. I kinda wish I would've waited for this model instead.

Simply put, yes. We have standard rates of twist for certain calibers but if someone wishes to deviate from standard, it's not a big deal. It's only a $75 fee to use a non standard twist rate.

Standard rates of twist:
.224 1x12
.243 1x10
.257 1x10
.264 1x8
.277 1x10
.284 1x9
.308 1x10
.323 1x10
.338 1x10
.358 1x10

Can't wait to read more. I thought for a second that was a doe deer with weird ears before I realized it was an antelope. Is the barrel bull or heavy or just the standard from their other rifles?

Awesome speed goat! I was chasing them in Montana's Big Hole Valley with a Cooper muzzleloader last weekend but couldn't find any on public land. I'll be back at it this weekend too, but something tells me that my ML won't reach out like that rifle ;)
