Considering a move to smokeless

Which can are you using?

Excuse my ignorance here but is this only for the savage ML or can you convert a savage CF to a ML using this kit?? It says you can use an axis but it’s kind of vague.
Any centerfire that uses the savage small shank barrel threads. For example I use mine on an American Rifle Company action however a buddy built his on a savage axis and replaced the bolt head with one specifically for holding the primer modules. In my case the ARC actions are control round feed so I just reach up and slip the module under the extractor then close the bolt.

Those barrels are available in Savage small or large shank options.

I built one of those cva conversions this year and don’t regret it for a second, put the Hankins ignition system in it and rolled. I’m shooting a 200gr bullet at 2750fps out of it. I’ll try to attach a picture of a 200 yard target and a couple groups I shot with it before season this fall.

Have you shot any BH through that can or just smokeless. If so what’s your BH velocity looking like and how is cleaning?

Mine is built on a stainless single shot 700 action. I ordered a barrel and breech plug from Hankins and had my gunsmith do all the machine work and cerakote. It was very reasonably priced. I also put together one for a friend starting with a bare 700 action and an Arrowhead remage barrel. Everything ready to shoot, including ramrod and bullets was about $2200.

Where did you source the actions and how much? I saw ptg offers them but I’ve read some scathing reviews

Cheapest-savage bolt gun donor with arrowhead or similar prefit, Remove spring loaded ejector

Best for the Money-CRF action with easy bolt release
Arrowhead or similar barrel (shouldered will take more pressure, but barrel nut barrels do pretty well) Bravo chassis
Remove ejector and put it in your safe.
Remove bolt, put priming module under extractor, replace bolt.

Are the axis actions an option?

For reference that’s a 26 inch omega (chassis) and a bergara wilderness SP they claim to have an 18 inch barrel but measures 16.5 without the brake. Woodman omega is my choice by a long shot. You can get a bolt gun with a super heavy barrel that will shoot higher charges but for me that’s not super important.

Where did you get a chassis to fit the omega!?
