Come on Montana! WTH?

I am not saying I condone this, I hate China as much as the next red blooded American. I’ve always been hesitant about claiming to know, or think I know, more than the President and their cabinet about things like this. And trust me, I’ve been thoroughly indoctrinated by the federal government and DoD in hatred towards China - not a day goes by I don’t think, or hear, something about things bubbling up in China.

We possess the capabilities to track these things from launch. We possess the capabilities to neutralize these things. As with everything we do, there’s risk associated, and risk mitigation is a large part of how decisions are made at high levels.

Simply saying shoot it down is a bit asinine, as that would be inviting China to try something aggressive towards us in the western Pacific. And if not us, then against Taiwan, which will inevitably involve…us.

Cue WWIII.

Do we want it floating overhead? No. Weigh those risks against shooting it down, and you’ll find we don’t want to do that either.

Yeah, it’s muddy.

There is history on the subject. A US spyplane was shot down over Russia. No war resulted.

What do you think would happen if we sent a giant spy balloon over China? That's right, it would be shot down. China is testing the limits of what they can do all of the time. I wonder what they send next.

Well ABC News reported yesterday that it poses no threat to domestic airline travel so everything is clearly fine. Carry on with your daily activities folks....
