With IP28 seeming to gain traction and will most likely gather the needed 117k sigs to be on the ballot. Why haven't I ever seen an amendment put forth to guarantee Oregon's right to hunt & fish? Currently 23 states have this amendment written into their constitution.

Would an amendment like this nullify IP28? I would imagine that getting the needed number of signatures would be attainable. Heck, the sportsman's show was this weekend, and I bet you'd get close to 20k that weekend alone!

I know next to nothing about politics or how to start an initiative. I'm sure there's someone on here who understands these processes and could explain why Oregon hasn't been able to get a similar amendment on the ballot?

Great idea! My buddy was on the MAX going the sportsman show and was approached about signing IP28. He educated a few people about how misleading the name of it is and what it means. The person still got about 10 signatures that he saw. We need to end these types of things now while we have the chance. I don’t see things here getting any better anytime soon.

I’ve thought about this many times. I’m not sure on the mechanics of getting something like this on the ballot. I’m guessing it would be easy to get the signatures but the money to push it through might be more difficult.

Absolutely disgusting agenda they are pushing, would result in my immediate move out of Oregon.
That’s what it would take? Trading wolves with fellow libtard Colorado, making the taxpayers in the 3 largest counties pay a “Homeless Tax”, etc, wasn’t enough? I couldn’t wait until I got out of there almost 20 years ago.

You don’t have a constitutional amendment to hunt and fish because your state votes blue and initiative 28 will likely pass because it sounds wonderful to anyone who’s only connection to their food is a grocery store and hasn’t touched dirt in years

It won’t pass (knocking on wood just in case)

What.....the......****

"Since IP28 would prohibit killing animals, including bovines, a rancher would likely no longer have a reason to raise cattle. That said, IP28 does not prohibit a rancher from strictly raising and caring for bovines or any other animal. It would, however, require that the rancher does not abuse, neglect, or sexually assault the animals under their care, meaning that the animals could not be killed or forcibly impregnated. We would encourage ranchers to transition to an alternative agriculture practice, which could be supported by the Humane Transition Fund that IP28 establishes. If a rancher would prefer to continue caring for animals, there is also the possibility that they could help operate an animal sanctuary. At a sanctuary, they could still care for animals, while also letting the animals live out their natural lives."

Pure retardation at every level, once you start throwing around animals being “sexually assaulted” and the idea that ranchers could pivot to having “animal sanctuaries” you are officially retarded. Problem is they can pick and choose the wording if it gets on the ballot and make it sound better, like the measure that legalized all drugs a few years back… need to keep exposing this shit for what it is

Turning up roots and moving, even for politics, is not always an easy task. Sometimes, and for some people, yes, “That’s what it would take”….

I was 23 when I moved to Wyoming. I was single with no children. The only thing I was leaving behind was a great job( that I have yet to beat even being self employed) and 23 years of connections and relationships built with family and friends. In fact, when you factor in the small town nature of where I lived, there’s actually generations of developed relationships that I was leaving behind. I’ll be 26 in a few weeks. I don’t regret my decision, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. To say that it was still difficult would be a massive understatement.

It shouldn’t be discounted how monumental of a task it can be to move. Last spring, I helped some friends move a little over an hour from where they lived to where they live now. I don’t know that it was all that much easier than moving 1,000 miles.

Sometimes, the S-hole you know is better than the one you might be going to.

POST EDIT: As far as this proposal becoming law, why would outdoorsmen care? Just hunt anyway. If the officials your taxes employ don’t care enough to shut down or not honor a law like this one, why should you? Ever wanted to shoot a buck or bull in velvet? That’s the chance of a lifetime. Stock growers talk often about regulations hurting their business….Under this law, none of that regulation currently hindering them should bother them either.
