Good evening, gents. I poked around the interwebs a little bit in regards to this, but wanted to see if there was anyone here that lives near or frequents the area enough to know. Sounds like the fire in 2020 was pretty hot and didn't leave a lot left (especially near the center of the 188k acres). This is unit 18 in Colorado BTW

Does anyone live around there or frequent it enough over the last few years to shed any light on how the regrowth is? I read an article from 2022 that stated there was little starting on the edges, but the center was pretty toast still.

Thanks!

I bought a leftover cow tag and hunted 4th season there. The number of hunters was surprising given the fire. We didn't see a single elk. We did see two moose right along highway 40. We did talk to some hunters that saw two cows in a valley on private about 400 yards from an outfitter's tent. A lot of the roads are closed which further reduced access.

We even went into Rocky Mountain NP and glassed the NF. All we saw were orange vests.

Makes me want to jump right on that tag then! 🤣

Sounds about right, considering what I've been researching.

Yeah, the guy that went with me is a serious hunter. This was the first time, ever, all across the west, that he's not seen an elk.

To answer your question about how it looks. Where the fire roared through it looked like it has burned a few weeks before we got there. Moonscape.
