My side of the BlackOvis/Camofire story - Podcast and Q&A

My company had sold $200K of product to kmart before they went bankrupt a few years back. By calling and pestering them, we got paid about 100k of that shortly before they went under. Still owed us 100k.

Instead of getting the last 100k, we were forced to SEND BACK the first 100k, for the court to determine should it be spread out among everyone else who had been owed and didn't get anything. It was argued that it was unfair for us to be paid even half of what we were owed, and other business all MUCH LARGER than us, got nothing. That nearly cost us everything, almost made us close up.

It sucks all the way around. And unless you get paid on delivery, or ahead of time, this could happen to you.

Add me to the camp of those that were owed nothing but appreciate the courage it took to come on here. I was never a BO customer. Though I'm a lifelong hunter, I'm just getting into western hunting and nothing yet that requires the hardcore backcountry type gear...YET.

This one hits personally for me because I am in a different sort of business. Not business so much as profession. I'm in the public eye so I take my public beating. Often from people without the facts but all the opinion and platform in the world. I'd often love the opportunity to respond but I am limited in what I can say.

@ktowncamo does not appear to have much to gain by putting himself out there like this. He isn't in business, doesn't appear to have anything on the imminent horizon, but wanted to share his perspective. Likely knowing he'd take some shots. I'll add that I'm sorry for those who lost out as part of this. I can understand some hard feelings for you folks.

Yup. It's really fun when they start pounding on your kids cause they don't like you.

Sorry for the bump - but I did not see this thread until now. Thanks for the commentary about the situation.
Myself personally - I was a huge BO branded fan. I thought their merino wool, gloves, and some other attire were great pieces of clothing for a decent affordable price. Their lightweight Specter Ultralight Wind Hoodie is still my favorite all lightweight jacket that I wear year around to this day in WI. Running to the grocery store, work, around the yard, etc....

Sucks to see about any business going bankrupt.... Sucks to also see folks lose money and their jobs.

If Kendall ever re-started a smaller and focused business with the vision to contineu the BO line but in a different name, I would be a gladly paying customer again.

But reverse it , Ovis Black !

White Argali?

Oh wait... there is a brand name Agrali already. Doh.

But yes. From one measly individual in this great world - I would be 110% in favor of seeing the BO line resurrected as another brand name.

Can’t believe I missed this thread in March. Don’t have anything to add, but if you do start up again under another name I would 100% buy some more Black Ovis clothing!
