Colonoscopy....

A Dozen? Christ...are you 154 years old? Every 5 years after 50, No?
Colarectal cancer at 37. Be 50 in June. The first year they were in there 3 times at least. Then every year after that. For whatever reason, my body makes polyps. Last time I went three years without one (that's what i was told) and when they went in, I was loaded with them. One so large and concerning that after the doctor removed it, he tattooed the spot so he could pay better attention to it in the future. It was benign thank God.

He asked why I hadn't been back in three years and I told him my followup instructions. He was pissed...really pissed. He said he wanted me there every year.

I live a very healthy life style, eat really good and don't drink much at all. I don't know...just how I was built. It isn't genetic...as far as they know.

I've also had thyroid and skin cancer, which wasn't horrible. But I have to follow up regularly on both of those.

For people in the first responder world, there is a big push to start at 40. Really high rates of GI cancer.

I've had several people I've gotten yo know that have died be abuse of the same cancer I had.

I had my first colonoscopy at 36. They removed several polyps and told me to come back in three years, which is coming up this fall. I have a family history of colon cancer, but even with that I had to push to get the procedure done. The prep wasn't hard at all. The actual procedure felt like a really heavy duty nap.

If you have a family history, keep an eye on your health and go to your doctor at the first sign of trouble. It'll probably be nothing, but it's never the wrong choice to be cautious about colon cancer.

Every year for me from here on. First one was last year. I have Lynch Syndrome which basically means genetically I have a higher risk of colon cancer. That stuff you drink is absolutely awful!

It" not so bad, they got it down to a science. A regular production line it is so common now. Besides when was the last time 3or 4 pretty nurses asked," Can I get you anything what do you NEED?"

If you have ever thought about the tests like cologuard research them as most insurance won't pay for them if you have ever had a polyp removed as now you are under treatment and not preventive, that was a 600.00 lesson I learned as I had polyps removed a couple years prior.

That's for sure. I was automatically and without warning sent a kit by my med center. I had to call and tell them I'm ineligible for the Cologuard and told them I refused it and sent it back. Luckily it didn't end up in a billing fiasco that I've heard about.

Dealing with drinking the stuff and clearing yourself out... is way more fuss/issue then when you're actually getting the procedure done.

If you can? Take a PTO day to be at home when you're drinking the stuff and clearing-out. It wouldn't be fun at all to have that kind of urgency kick-in at a work place.

And for those who haven’t read the whole thread, shower, don’t wipe.

It’s obvious if you think about it.
