College Wrestling?

For OK state wrestling fans, what do you guys think about the freshman 195lb Coby Merill
I have not seen him wrestle but he sounds like a beast. Coached by Cormier in high school and now David Taylor? I hope he takes advantage of his situation. I think Surber is finished after this season.

I wish would of found this thread before today. I'd say we had a pretty interesting weekend. The Ivy tournament was kind of ho hum though. can't wait for Nationals to start in a couple weeks.

On a side not I was planning to to nationals this year because if haven't been in a couple years. I was astounded at the ticket prices I found so I decided to stay home. are any of going?
Not going because Philly is a dump and the location is not fan friendly at all. I think tickets in KC last year were between 4-500 a pop for the lower bowl I bought. Certainly has seemed to trend up every year.

Was that for all sessions or just finals? Been a goal and dream to go. But think I surfed tickets a few years ago in Pittsburgh and it was $2000+ per seat All Sessions? That sound off?

@LostArra

I don't think I am too far from your assessment. I am sure it's much harder in person than me simply yelling at the screen.

But Kerk never shows up when it's a challenging match. Again...I am not on the mat. But he's two different wrestlers. He's beat before he walks on. Doesn't even try IMO.

Yea...couple chinks in the Nittany armor. I really hope Barr can make a comeback. I saw him holding hamstring but not knee. Seemed odd. But not good.

My wife follows all my favorites and knows most names. I text her a screen shot of Kasaks face during his post match interview.....she's a Medical Provider and firing off an email to Cael about taking care of his kids!!

RE: Kasak....wow! Man...he got that micro head but and instantly called Time. Spooky. Looks great. But also looked like he was anxious to end it and get of the mat. Another two weeks off isn't gonna hurt him. Who else is lurking at 157 other than Shapiro....who I haven't watched all season? I like Tyler's attitude a bit more than some of the others. Sure....Cael has some secret spiritual sauce and everyone is Praise Jesus...hey...whatever works man.

But Kasak....."I saw Levi before I went on the mat" (What did Levi tell you?)..."He said go Smash this kid".

That's more my style and exciting. We know you and Aaron Brooks heart you some Jesus. But let's get back to wrestling.

Bartlett.....agree....Piss break and tend the grill.

Illiini did have a great tourney. I hope they can keep and get some continued talent. I like seeing some "random" kids do well.

I'll watch Hamiti vs KOT when I get home. Both/Either are going to be tough for Haines. Levi usually hits a mid season slump and doesn't look too hot. Looks pretty calculated right now.

Caliendo- another non PSU favorite. He looked to accept Messenbrink's accolades OK. Still sucks to get that dominated, but he's closing the gap and learning lessons.

McEnelly- Wow! He's BIG at 184. I put a little thought into this Finals match today. Carter is NOT my favorite guy. He's been more palatable this season than the past. His quotes and retorts are a bit more humorous than PURE EGO. If Mac bumps him off in the Finals and keeps him from a 5th...how will I feel about that? Not sure. 5 would be BEYOND cool. I don't think ever to be done again.

Lots of upsets. Was a great championship to watch. I'll likely watch the Big 12 if you're YT posted tonight.

Gable is simply on another level. He's an Olympic champion. Kerk has dominated the weight for 2 years, Gable is just that good.

Lovett won't win Nationals. He can't beat Henson. No match for him on his feet. May not even get there depending on the seeding. He needs Van Ness on the other side.

Hardy has a shot but the top 4 could all win it. Seeding will be interesting there. Hardy needs to be opposite Bartlett to have a shot at the finals.

I think Ayala gets back to the finals but he won't beat Byrd. Iowas only hope is Buchanon.

Nebraska won't fare near so well in the team race at Nationals.

Can McEnelly get by Kekesian? Not as good of a matchup for him. Not a fan of going for the 5th national title. Prior to the COVID ridiculousness no one had the opportunity.

When does the Iowa coaching talk heat up? When is Spencer going to come back and take over? Will he? Won't be long and they will be behind OSU. Without 3 transfers this year they are mid pack in the B1G.

Iowa will stick with the Brands as long as their NIL/transfer sugar daddy wants them. Right now they appear to be heading into the John Smith phase of just Angry Old Men.

They get good recruits and transfers but don't make them finalists. Of course the competition at the top is brutal and that is where Hawkeyes are expected to be.

I just looked in my email. $450 a ticket for all session tickets in the lower bowl last year in KC. I go almost every year and have never seen anything close to $2k a seat, but I always buy through Nebraska's allocation and not on the secondary market.

I am a fan of these guys moving around and trying new RTCs. I would be interested to see what happens if Spencer hit the NLWC for a year or two.

Lots of "buzz" about the Brands Brothers needing to move on right now. "Angry old dudes". Pretty accurate. If Cael is the master of saying nothing in Media Day interviews...Tom is right behind him. "We love Gabe Arnold"...."We love Parco"...."We love Patrick Kennedy". I think Kennedy is right there with Murin. A super scrappy, blue collar, lunch box to work guy. AA, but bottom of the podium.

Parker has the biggest motor and attack rate by far. But Mac just looked BIG, Stingy and hard to move around and score on. Kinda impressive.

How about the little guys? Unless it was Spencer....always seems to me the 125s are all generally very close. Tomasello, Pich, Gilman, Nico, Sebass......seemed it was always a Round Robin of swapping wins.

Luke peaking at the correct time and now has the confidence to know he can do it...and will? There's a ton of '25s that I don't see during the season. NC State has a firecracker of a kid at 125, no?

I don't really watch much outside the B1G during the season. Caleb Smith is Nebraska's Bo Bartlett, go tend the grill.

Something was off with Ramos against Lillidahl. Ramos hadn't been scored on this year until that match. Tough road for a freshman to get through the NCAA. If anyone can do it, they will have a blue and white singlet. Carl's kids just wrestle different. Especially at the big show. Absolutely amazing what they have done. Iowa, even in their heyday, weren't tech falling and majoring every kid in the division.
