I've got coffee covered (nescafe instant) but still trying to find a mug or cup. Didn't want to pay $30 for titanium.

I use a cheap 16oz size plastic insulated mug I bought at Walmart. I cut the handle off to save a lot of the weight but it doesn't weigh much and it keeps my Starbucks hot long enough to drink it all on a cold morning . I tried a titanium mug once and about a third of the way through the coffee was cold. It didn't have a lid either.

Finch,

This is what I use. I highly recommend it. Lightest I've found and keeps stuff hot long enough for me.

You're a genius! I think I might buy this. It would be good for soup as well, thank!

Thanks, Shrek. I'll check it out next time I'm in Wally World. Might go with the GSI mug Ironman suggested though.

+1 on the GSI mug. I actually use one all year round in my classroom at school. It is not the best insulator, you can't expect the coffee to be warm 3 hours later but you don't have to chug it . All around good choice

Via's are the only way to roll. I keep some in both trucks at all times so I can still make my coffee in the Jetboil or anywhere there's hot water if I'm out and about.

Weight is a non-issue, very little trash, and they taste pretty darn good. But I do prefer a little milk in mine. Not a problem in base camp, but not happening if packing in. I tried to bring some of the small 1/2 and 1/2's in one time and they all exploded inside the ziplock at high altitude.

Finch...I also use the same REI cup. I have not had coffee in it at freezing temps outside, but for how light it is it seems to keep the coffee hot enough for me and I only like to drink hot coffee.

If you like creamer/sugar in your coffee or want to try something different go to your local Chinese store as they sell pkg of 3 in 1 instant. There is a brand called "Express" with a picture of an American flag and bald eagle on it...they are the best tasting of all the 3 in 1 at my local stores.

I'm going to have to try the Via sounds like its a favorite. I also take some hot chocolate or mocha packets. They really help save the day when your tarp bound by rain or snow.

I know you said you don't like powdered creamers, but have you tried powdered milk? I stir about a tablespoon of powdered milk with cold water in the bottom of my cup. Then add the via and hot water. Just liked adding milk at home, without the weight.

Haven't tried the powdered milk in coffee, but did with cereal once. That's not happening again. Probably OK in coffee though, but it's not that big of deal drinking it black either. At home I make my coffee really strong, like a 20oz cup of all espresso, and really hot. So I like the milk to cool it down so it's drinkable, along with mellowing it out just a touch. In the backcountry I really don't have to worry about either. It cools down quickly and it's not that strong. But I may try it anyway.

Well, I picked up this mug at sportsmans a little bit ago. They had a S2S mug that looked really nice too bit was twice the price. I can't complain for the GSI being 8 bucks.

No worries about cream and sugar here. If it's decent coffee, I drink it black. Thanks for the suggestions!

I drop in two ice cubes and my coffee is ready to go....just the right temp. Made some instant coffee the other weekend while camping and thought I had put enough water in to cool it down enough to start drinking. Nope, couldn't taste any food the rest of the day. :) Maybe those chilly CO mornings will do the trick for me.

Due to my work location I rarely get to drink regular coffee. I have tried most all of the brands of instant coffees and the two best are Nescafe and Starbucks Via. For the money the Nescafe is as good as regualr coffee and I buy it based on price. The rest of the instant coffee's out there are almost undrinkable.

This year we used these:

http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/natures-coffee-kettle-100-colombian-coffee-pouch

It makes a quart which was just about right for 3 of us and it's fast, add a pint of hot water, wait a few minutes and add another pint. It's real coffee, not instant and has flavor enough I could drink at home. You save the pouch and use refills after the first day. The refills are just a packet of coffee in a disc shaped filter. At Sportsman's Warehouse they were $5 for the MH sized pouch with one coffee packet in it and the refills were $2.50.

I roast my own (we have a custom roasting business), grind and package for 2 cups at a time in snack sized ziplock bags. At camp just dump in the grounds, let it work and then just use a spoon to keep the grounds from going into my cup as I pour.

Much better coffee than via or any of the others, very inexpensive, but does require a little more prep.

For years I used the Folger tea bags and they work fine, but after hearing many of you guys talk about the Via packets I broke down and tried them. Wow! They are really good! Not like cheap instant at all. Via fan now.

I now pack 2-3 pkgs in w/ my cold cereal breakfast. I use a cheap 16oz insulated coffee cup w/ spill proof lid as my cereal bowl and then I use the via coffee in the same cup to clean it out. I usually drink my coffe cold out on the ridge while glassing and the cup.also serves as an extra water bottle as well.

I'm a slurp & run coffee drinker on a hunt. I don't like to mess around with steeping bags or waiting on things. VIA is the 95% answer for me. It tastes good (not perfect) and that's good enough. The convenience factor is huge for me. If anyone ever comes out with something as easy which tastes better I will go for it. When I can bring enough coffee for 12 days in a sandwich bag weighing a few ounces, that's hard to beat.
