I linked the extent of the bill (minimal) in the first post.

From your background do they produce guidance on how enforcement should interpret such vague language?

Yes, the DA's office will put on a legal updates seminar every year, sometimes twice if they are seeing issues.

*I think* the reality will be nobody will care where your gun is UNTIL your vehicle is stolen.

Interesting to hear what comes of this. Zip ties on zipper pulls isn’t hard too comply with. TSA requirements level cases and lock requirements is another matter of annoying.

It was in a locked case as best as I can remember, is their proof otherwise? ;)

I’m just waiting for the gun owner of the stolen vehicle to get into more trouble than the thief. Wouldn’t surprise me the way this crap is going.

Really seems like by the time someone steals the car, they can go and take the couple minutes (at most) it takes to open any “lockable” gun case with basic tools at their leisure. Sounds really effective. I frequently put mine in soft cases in the Decked drawers on my pickup, which lock. Wonder if that qualifies.

Great, so now I have to buy OHV stickers for all my trucks. And a bow case for my bow when I'm driving to my hunting spots. I should just send a bill for reimbursement to our state government for all the stupid stuff they make me spend money on. Just like time and gas for repeated trips back to the retailer to actually pick up the gun I bought 3+ days ago. Liberals never solve anything, they just create more problems, cost us more money, and add lots of frustration.

So how do you identify an OHV trail? If the sign shows only 4x4 vehicles, is that considered an OHV trail?

Just to add to the confusion. Since the law is very vague, it will be up to the DA and judges on how to interpret this. The metro area courts are very different than the rural courts. But then again, the Denver DA doesn’t really prosecute criminals with weapon charges.
Over all the law seems like one of California’s 1000 gun laws that are unenforceable.

They don’t prosecute actual criminals with weapons charges. TBD on how they go after previously law abiding citizens this is targeted towards to curtail legal gun ownership.

I remember hearing something about this a while ago (when it first passed?) but nothing for a long time. I can think of at least 5 vehicle/equipment thefts in the last 3 years from the neighborhood where I work, easily a couple hundred grand and basically nothing's been done about any of it. I thought about moving to the Western slope to get away from the front range traffic but the BS politics will probably have me leaving the state sooner than later unfortunately.

The whole thing is stupid. It’s a feel good nothing burger that the lib majority rammed through…. It’s meant to inconvenience and be confusing. What good does it do? Nada let’s ask ourselves why we would need all this extra crap if we didn’t have one of the highest per capita of auto thefts? Maybe we go back to making auto thefts a felony?! The state legislature here is so dumb and frustrating!

Those stupid cable gun locks maybe keep a small child from accessing a gun. I have easily cut them with a pair of diagonal wire cutters. CO is a joke.

It's good to remember the people passing these laws do not have the interests of the vast majority of citizens in mind when they create them. They view everything through the lens of power dynamics, and destabilizing and destroying the current system is the goal. What will it be replaced by? Their "group" in charge of course, because they know best.

These are the same people that only changed auto theft penalties after CO led the nation in cars stolen per capita. They know exactly what the impact of increasing the penalty for stealing a gun would be, they just don't care. They don't care that the criminals they treat so well in the name of "restorative justice" primarily victimize the same communities they pretend to champion.

Hell, the Denver Mayor just publicly stated he'd rather go to jail for resisting ICE than let them deport the violent criminals he's been giving free housing for the past few years. Guess that 14 year old girl that was just raped in Lakewood is less important than the Venezuelan man that assaulted her, right Mayor Mike?

Luckily, there are plenty of Sheriffs in the places people actually go to hunt that refuse to enforce the edicts passed down from Oz (Denver).
