CO Gov appoints Sierra Club leader to represent hunters/outfitters on CPW Commission

Pods, I know this is a hunttalk thread but it has some interesting information.

Our pathetic governor is stacking every political appointment with the leaders of the Sierra Club. I wouldn’t take a piss on this guy if he were on fire.

Wow, who knew Sierra Club was such a bastion of patriarchy and white supremacy. Our new “Guides and Outfitters” rep on the CPW Commission left Sierra Club due to the rampant sexism and racism. Too woke for Sierra Club, but a perfect fit for Colorado Wildlife Commission under the Polis regime.

JFC dude…

Just contacted my state senator.

I'm still confused by the confirmation process, though. It appears that Blayney is already an active member of the commission, but to be confirmed for a full term, there will need to be a (not yet scheduled) hearing in the Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee, and then a full vote in the Senate.

Can anyone confirm?

I believe this is correct, confirmation won’t be until early next year… ag committee might help us kill it, the fella out east is super responsive and a republican, the D’s on the committee are pretty hard to convince though… there is a very good article that I need to find. Minturn Anglers (pro hunters / good dudes) noticed this Blayney character didn’t have any permits to guide on any water and reached out, blayney ignored them, clearly they aren’t a legit guiding outfit or have been guiding illegally for a year total sham and disrespectful to the many great hunting and angling outfits in Co.

Looks like 2 seirra club loons coming to the CPW, this will likely tip the scales of our ability to get anything meaningful from them, they will 1000% be up to some anti hunting BS…

Man, you guys got a helluva fight on your hands. What a kick in the shins.

It never ends man, doesn’t help that the governors husband is a rabid animal rights activist, I think Jared could care less but he appeases his husband with this insanity
I guess it’s probably more illustrative of my ignorance of the dynamics at hand in Colorado than anything else, but why, in a state with the current political climate that exists in Colorado, can’t state government simply close all hunting seasons? It certainly appears that the citizens of Colorado would not object, at least the majority wouldn’t. What other conclusion would one come to considering the results of past elections? Why does the current political structure feel that it has to nibble hunting to death in Colorado?

I don’t think they could out right close it, it still brings a couple billion to the state… but they are setting the stage for it, they don’t quite have a majority against hunting, it’s hard to say the most vocal and active people in the state are the uber activists

It seems that Gov Polis has appointed an “alleged” fly fishing outfitter that no one in the community has heard of as the “outfitters” representative on the CPW Commission. Frances Blayney was a leader in Colorado Sierra Club. Seems like her fly fishing business started in 2023. It was all really just a front by Wildlife Czar Marlon Reis to get a Sierra Club representative on the CPW Commission and ensure one less hunter sits on the commission. Colorado Sierra Club supported Prop 127 and HB 25-1258. It seems that Colorado Guides and Outfitters Association was shut out of the discussion. Time to fire up the phone lines and emails.
It wont stop. The tree people have to many deep pocket friends. They just keep coming and coming until it finally effects them. Problem is it will take years before that happens and they destroy Colorado.

I actually think there is some trickle down from usaid and some of that taxpayer slush fund getting shut off, let’s see if the NGO’s can self support… I know the sportsmen are self funded so should level the playing field a bit

That’s only temporary, unfortunately. I’ve been on the planet long enough to learn the cyclical nature of politics.

This is more a question to some of the old timers here, as I was a bit younger at the time and it wasn’t really on my radar: What was the reasoning behind combining Fish & Game and Parks division back in 2011?

Now I know why they say it was done (unified management of wildlife, etc etc), but is this the actual reason? Seems to me that much like this recent gun bill CPW got stuck funding, the state wanted to reallocate all of the tag/license sales revenue towards something that had far less funding, and exert more control over wildlife management in the process. But again, I wasn’t paying attention to all this back then so this is pure speculation by me based on the climate we face today.

Yea that’s about exactly what I imagined it was. Seeing all the dumb shit that the CPW social media accounts post is what got me thinking of this. Fish & Game got saddled with their cost and all they got in return was a bunch of libs in charge. Great.

Yep. If you think about from an oversight and policy making standpoint, it would allow the anti-hunting faction to gain seats on the newly combined parks and wildlife commission. The Governor could appoint anti-hunting activists to the “parks and outdoor recreation” seats further diluting the votes of the sportsmen seats. That is what is taking place now. Governor Polis appoints anti-hunting activists to the parks, outdoor recreation, at-large, and non-consumptive user seats. That gives them a significant voting bloc when a contentious issue like trapping, mountain lion hunting, etc comes up for a vote. Which is why Silva Blayney’s recent appointment as the guide/outfitter representative is so dangerous with her history of anti-hunting advocacy and leading role as a “super-volunteer” with Colorado Sierra Club. Colorado sportsmen and women have to push back on her and Emerick’s appointments when they come up for vote in the state senate.
