Grew up Hunting whitetail in Upstate NY and PA where 200 yards was a far shot lol. Most of NY was shotgun only until not that long ago. You just can’t beat a 30-30 in those situations. You can hit a tree branch and still hit the deer. I also would take out the vintage 356 lever action but 30-30 is easy to find ammo for. My grandpa never converted over to rifle and uses a 20 gauge with slugs.
