I posted I'll take it on a rifle yesterday and had already discussed payment, shipping, etc. with the seller. About an hour later I got a text from (571) 274-3191 that says " Hello buddy, I'm texting about my rifle from Rockslide. What's your shipping address? I take Paypal F&F. [email protected] Claims his name is Zion Jarvis.

It smelled because I hadn't given the seller my number yet. I looked at my past posts and I had posted my phone number in a previous for sale thread.

So watch out for this type of scam.

Do not post “I’ll take it” or any kind of message on listings that would indicate you are going to buy item.
Scammers are looking for this. Just do private messages with seller.

Your write-up on the subject is excellent, thanks.

My account on Bird Forum was hacked, the SOB advertised two Swarovski binoculars through my account. Luckily, I got it shut-down, however, they are getting better. This guy's English and punctuation was perfect, so I'd guess he's not a transplant, and the Google photo search didn't show any results of the photos being copied from any where or advertised elsewhere, but it wouldn't be hard to go into a shop, snap a few photos "for a friend" and use them to advertise with.

Sad state of affairs.

With AI, they don't need proper english or punctuation anymore. Your phone or computer will translate it.

I just had this exact same thing happen, same guy. What I can't figure out is how did he get my phone number? I posted "PM sent" on a thread and within 5 minutes had a text from this guy. I found this thread by googling his phone number

You likely posted your phone number some time in the past somewhere and a quick search by him found it. I've stopped posting in a thread, and only pm the person to avoid the problem you described.

Same happened to me on a stock. Scammers will try anything. He got a pretty colorful text back from me.

I just got screwed by a guy using this method. Felt sketchy and I should have listened to my gut. The PayPal he used was SteveHudson287. Venmo he tried to get me to use was AlexanderRouse-08 which he said was his wife’s. Email he ultimately used was hunterbridge05@gmail to send pictures and the phone number he texted from was
‪+1 (920) 653-0745‬. I heard from PayPal that his email is StevenHudson3732@gmail.
Essentially same concept as described above. I never buy much from online forums and stupidly sent via F&F. I got convinced by some actual photos and written stuff on paper. Probably photoshopped now that I think about it. I was also convinced because the original seller used a guest account which you can’t message. I hit up someone else that purchased something from the OP and he confirmed it was all legit. But clearly this was a scammer capitalizing on a post. He got my number because I had posted it somewhere back in 2022 or so. I feel like such a dumbass.

Lesson learned…. Always Goods and Services for me and always messaging via the forum.

You will be hard pressed to get PayPal to work with you, no matter what if they find out it is a firearm related component if you get scammed.
