Citizen petition to ban lead ammo in Colorado

Dude, what’s with the attitude?
I genuinely have no ill-will to you or your opinions.

I have a vested interest in this discussion.
I came on strong. Sorry.

Hard to imagine given the petitioner list they would shed any tears if this was followed up by a partial or total hunting ban. Also hard to imagine this not becoming the law in CO in the near future. CA has had it for years. Surprised OR and WA aren't already working on it either.

Appreciate it brother.

And I agree. It’s pretty clear the destination this and the current Oregon initiative are trying to arrive at.

I do not want to derail this thread from the topic of the CO Lead Free petition, but I want to make hunters aware that a portion of the lead free ammo push is funded by major US energy and grid companies actually paying for eagle kills at their facilities. Maybe someone can shed light on whether the entities listed on this petition received any of that funding or not. I posted about some environmental/conservation groups that filed federal court briefs that included language to keep the compensatory mitigation system of eagle death credit buy and trading in place in post #89 in this thread - https://rokslide.com/forums/threads...-land-green-energy.372321/page-5#post-4508055

The US Fish and Wildlife Service Webpage on Eagle Take is here:

So if it feels like there is something bigger at play working against hunters in the lead-free ammo debate, there is. The lead-free ammo debate includes a portion of funding from US tax payer subsidized energy development.

Do any of you know the process for these? Is there public comment period or anything similar? What entity/who argues the pro-lead side?
Unfortunately not really, they (commissioners) can unilaterally pass this I think. There will be a public comment but they don’t listen to the public at all. It would be akin to a bunch of anti bike people getting road bikers banned from riding on roads without bike lanes. These people are non participants, have no skin in the game and are actively animal activists.

Lead free ammo for centerfire cartridges is pretty available and ballistically sufficient.

Lead free for shotgun rounds really sucks unless you're turkey hunting. Makes an upland shoot far more expensive.

Lead free rimfire options are essentially non-existent.
Wonder if it would also apply to recreational shooters. Far more lead is spread onto public land via trap/skeet games than the upland fields.

The failed CatsArentTrophies/Prop 127 folks regrouped and started launching citizen petitions after failing at the ballot box. With the success of Center for Biological Diversity’s fur ban citizen petition it has really opened up Pandora’s box. They are going to send as many as they can for the next 8 months while Polis is still in office and they have a very favorable commission.

I love living here, but I really dislike a lot of the people that we share this state with.

Maybe we should start a citizens petition to ban kale...?

TBH secession* is the only way, and we are taking the water with us.

I'm tired of people with no skin in the game having a voice. in no way shape or form should the average citizen have any say in hunting or fishing via the ballot box.

FWIW, they banned lead ammo in CA and as I recall they used hack science to make the case. It's the Anti Hunters just chipping Away....thats their game plan.

They slowly sneak many different proposals past apathetic hunters until they are totaled up and it equals hunting opportunities gone-

Ban hunting Mountain lions- now they put a serious dent in game populations
Limit bear hunts- Same^
Introduce Wolves- get hunters fighting amongst themselves AND even more predation on game species
No lead ammo- handicap hunters

I’m guessing you mean secession

It’s a great thought but old Honest Abe demonstrated what happens when you actually try. And he didn’t have F-16s.

How about a citizen’s petition to eliminate FWP if game management is to be determined by mob rule?
You know how the State can’t ever allow any agency to be downsized let alone eliminated.

Yes typo.

Its at the point where CPW has no say and the commission ignores anything counter agenda.

Meh, I think you just practice civil disobedience and non compliance at a certain point. Hardly ever been checked by F&G outside of fishing and waterfowl hunting do with that what you will

The voters who have no skin in the game are the very reason why we have a huge amount of programs sucking this country dry. I feel the same about taxes….you don’t pay taxes, you don’t get to vote.

@jayhawk, they don’t care if rec shooters put more lead in the environment. This isn’t about about lead…we all know what it’s about.
