I distinctly remember this one on dads knee. I was so small, but I can still see him.

There were some other good ones, too.

This is an interesting post. My dad used to listen to bluegrass a lot (fox on the run) but the one song that takes me back to my youth with him is (not this exact version though):

My mom played piano and organ for church so about any hymn reminds me of her.

God bless them both.

Petulla Clark Downtown 8 track (the fancy one with bass and treble adjustment) up front in the Caprice Classic Wagon.

We had two Caprice Wagons…a green one then a brown one. Full sheets of plywood fit in the back with the seats down.

Remember that hatch cover over the spare tire? Damn thing would take your finger off if you dropped it - #AmericanSteel

We had an old 8 track player set up to the reloading bench in the basement. Ny dad had 8 tracks of some pretty old Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel, ABBA, Blondie and the best… An 8 track of Cheech & Chong “Up in Smoke”.

My dad in most all situations from a broke down truck or throwing hay would belt out Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t worry be Happy!”

Mom was a big Elvis fan

Dad wasn't really into music that I knew of. I am the last of nine kids so my brothers and sister were the one who followed the stars of the day, Elvis, Buddy Holley, Johnny cash, Roy Orbison, the lists goes on. Lots of great songs from that generation.

If you ever listen to Willy's roadhouse on SirusXM, that is what I grew up on.
That still is a pretty good station. That station reminds me a lot of my grandpa. Whenever I see him he’s always got it on. He grew up on this songs in the tractor as a kid. Still owns a ranch to this day. My dads songs he always sings are: Ghost riders, The strawberry roan, and Big iron. Those are some his favorites. Don’t know what my other grandpa liked, never got to meet him but I’m sure it was Marty Robins since that’s what my dad likes.

The one that sticks out most in my mind is Bob Seger's Old Time Rock and Roll. I still love that song. I grew up working with my dad so I love classic rock. My wife thinks I'm old as dirt cause of the music I listen to. The Eagles are another one that my dad listens to all the time. Years ago we all went and saw them live, still the best show I have ever been to.
Cool thread.

John Prine - Sam Stone

My mom loved that album, I remember singing along that song as a kid.
Didn't realize until I was in my 20s it was about heroin.

For my Dad- ZZ Top’s La grange was his favorite and all Hendrix’s songs.
My Mom- Patsy Cline. When my sisters and I were little we pooled our money together and bought her a Patsy cline’s greatest hit tape. I pretty sure she wore that tape out.

I was about 3 years old when my dad sat at the foot of the bed my little bro and I slept in and sang us Dylan's "Blowin in the Wind". He killed a Bighorn ram just outside of LA a year later...with a. 22lr. :)

Mom has sung me "My Funny Valentine" since birth, since I was born on Valentine's day. I remember her buying the Who's "Overture from Tommy" around 1970, as well as a lot of Sinatra and Tiajuana Brass.

This rings true recently. I grew up in the 70s and my mom loved Jim Croce and Harry Chapin. Operator and Mr Bojangles are burned into my head.

She also loved nursery songs. We recently had a daughter and i downloaded a nursery album and I just laugh to myself that I’m like my mom in that way singing “itsy bitsy spider” (there by the grace of god go I……..)
