I have a tikka .300 win mag. I have shot a couple different rounds through it. 178,180 & 200grn. The recoil and grouping are best with the 178gr eldx. I am planning on using this rifle for elk hunting in the PNW. I am curious if the 178gr. Will be enough to quickly and efficiently put down an elk from 100-500 yards. Or should I stick with the 200 gr ammo?

It will work no problem. ELDX is a great bullet. I dropped a monster bull with one shot by a 175gr on Monday. But as always, shot placement is everything.

Cool. I really like how the eldx 178gr handles in this .300 win mag. I’m going to the range tomorrow to get it dialed in. Can’t wait for rifle season this year.
Thanks for the input

Great round for that application. My wife and I just shot 2 moose a couple weeks ago with that exact round and they worked great!!

My brothers elk last year. Rem 700 in 300win mag with 178gr precision hunter. Under 100yds.

My dad's the year before last. Same gun and ammo. Over 500yds.

My brothers took only a couple of steps. Dad's went about 30yds
