Sounds like he had a good run....sorry for your loss.
My dad went on Hospice in 2013 a few before the Arizona Archery elk season....and as life goes, it was bad timing, I had waited many years for that tag. He was still hanging in there when the season opened but needed constant attention...then thankfully passed in his sleep about 5 days into the season. My truck was packed...but I just didn't feel like leaving to go hunting.
My wife literally kicked me out the door ......sending me on the long drive to hunt.
The first couple days solo were rough....but then as hunting does, it grounds you and the focus on hunting takes over. Best thing was to go on that hunt....it helped me move on past my grief.
My hope is that you can find something that will help you move on....with only the good memories.
