Cheap and light 1P tent recommendation

Anyone have experience with the lunar solo in tough weather conditions?
I’ve had mine on a late season hunt that had some steady rain off and on for 3 days with temps just above freezing. Tent did fine. I never seam sealed it, so I had some minor drops forming after the 3rd night. The weather was much worse than predicted. I usually bring a bigger tent if significant rain is in the forecast. The Lunar solo is small, if I’m planning on spending anytime in my tent besides sleeping I bring something else. That being said I can fit my rifle and clothes in the tent and my pack organized under the vestibule. I’ve also had it in some high winds and it performs good with the guy lines out.

Thanks! I have a Cimarron as well for bigger needs. I am interested in just running this as a solo system mainly for summer backpacking and maybe some Tx winter mountain biking trips. I have always had at least a 2p size, so the smallness of a 1p will take some time to adjust.

I basically treat the lunar solo as a glorified bivy sack. It does make a great bike packing tent. That’s what I use it for most.

This lunar solo looks pretty nice. I'll have to work on the pitch a little. It was muggy and I didn't feel like redoing it last night. The seam seal service is well done. I'd watched a review where it was kinda sketchy but this one is well done.
Have you had any more outings with this one?

I'd pick the Durston every time. You can find a used X-Mid 1 or 2 for pretty cheap ($200~) on the Facebook I Need an X-mid group. I was able to snag an X-mid 2 Pro for $400. I'm likely going to sell it for the X-Dome 2 though just because I don't want to deal with pitching.

I'd be interested in your x-mid if you're serious about selling it

There are some tarps on sale over on GH that come in around 1lb. Get a bug bivy and you're pretty light and compact. I run a 6x8 tarp and bug bivy through sept with no issue. The tarp has been nice to be able to setup in so many different ways depending on wind and weather, as well as topography.

Any taller guys have opinions?

Argali Owyhee and Durston xmid 1 are top of my list but at 6’2” im not sure how I would fit.

I have a SO Cimarron for the 2-3 person tent covered

I did a poll on the FB Ultralight Backpacking group for the best 1p tent under $300. Durston X-mid 1 won by a mile. I went with the X-mid, but was really close to getting the Gossamer Gear, since it is lighter and smaller. I did see some reviews that the GG sil-nylon sagged a lot in rain, wish there was a sil-poly version. Here are the results:

This is great. Thank you

I have used the Lunar Solo many times in heavy rain and wind. I have had it in the snow a couple times. It sags down, but it stays together. I put both poles in if it is going to snow. This is my go to most of the time. I have the old "LE" version with the thicker floor.

I agree it is little snug. I have a silvertip and a half nest for crumby late season.

I'm 6'4". I don't have any experience with the Argali Owyhee, but I have the Argali Rincon which is only listed as 2" longer. The tent is not far from my face when lying down and I hit the fabric when sitting up if I don't attempt to avoid it. Though overall it was not an issue for me, and I love the tent. Argali is also a great brand to support!

depends on what your definition of cheap is but the argali owyhee with the nest is as good as it gets

I bought the X-Mid solid from durston to use on most of my backpacking. Dan the owner seems really involved with customer service and the tent is pretty simple to setup.
