Looking for an option to pack in for overnight trout fishing trips. Cheap and light take priority over durability and waterproof. Mostly need something to avoid mosquitos and ticks. I've considered a bivy but I think I may toss and turn too much for that.

River country trekker 2.0 has served me well. Need trekking poles, but I don’t like to hike without them anyways

I'm another fan of these. There are two variants - the 2.2 has some "improvements" over the 2.0 but IMO they're not worth it and I prefer the 2.0 instead (I have one of each).

If you have $700 get an X-mid or Z-packs Duplex (or similar).

If you have $70 get a Trekker 2.0.

Note that while neither advertises this much, both can be set up with trekking poles OR a ridgeline. If I'm in any kind of timber I prefer the ridgeline. It sets up just as fast but you can keep your poles for other things like scouting hikes or trips to fetch water after setting up camp. I carry a 20' Amsteel ridgeline for this, weighs almost nothing and has other uses as well.

I will be using a Mountainsmith LT Shelter.

Cheap & Light? Lanshan 1 Pro

This looks like it could be a winner. Can't find the BA in stock anywhere and it's considerably more expensive.

I actually have 2 of these but want to avoid floorless. Too many ticks and Lyme disease around here.

+ One more vote for the river country tents! A hack I use for any trekking pole tent is to set the tent up, then measure the trekking pole length with a piece of paracord and cut the cord the length of the pole. Use the cord to measure and cut poles while in the bush and just pack the cord in tent bag. I tie loops on each end of the paracord so i can hook it on the end of sticks for measuring and cutting.

I just looked and it looks like the Lanshan 1 Pro has gone up in price from what I remember. If you have to pay around $200 for it I would just spend the extra $40 and get the Durston xmid 1. I think the Lanshan is a good value at $150...

cheap and light

or get a basic durson x-mid 1p

These are phenomenal little tents. Very similar to the gosamear gear but much less condensation.

Another recommendation for six moon designs. I haven’t used the skyscape but I have a lunar solo and really like it

I’ve got the 2 person version. It works for my needs and seems to be very good for the price.

Are any of you running these in later seasons or heavy storms? I have a hot tent but don’t always want to pack it all in. I have been considering the Durston X-mid but these seem like good options for the price.

I used the Sea to Summit Alto 1p with just the fly and floor footprint last fall elk hunting late season. I didn’t want to use trekking poles for a tent and this is under 2lbs setup. got a decent price with it on being sale and using a discount code. Maybe another option to look into. Had some condensation one night with ~ 6” of new snow but managed to stay dry with a little moisture dripping down. Little tight on room but I guess that’s to be expected. Going to spend some more time backpacking with it this summer.

I’m a big fan of the Tarptent Double Rainbow. It’s pretty affordable, quite a bit of space, and pretty lightweight. It’s the tent I use the vast majority of the year.

Get the X-Mid 2P. Weight difference is negligible and you'll have room for your pack, boots, etc.

I would personally never buy an actual 1P tent, might as well get a bivy at that point.
