Cheap and light 1P tent recommendation

The Stone Glacier Skyair ULT with mesh insert could be good for your needs. I certainly have my gripes with it, but for summer hikes/scouting and early season, I like it alot. Happy to go into more detail if helpful.

I did a poll on the FB Ultralight Backpacking group for the best 1p tent under $300. Durston X-mid 1 won by a mile. I went with the X-mid, but was really close to getting the Gossamer Gear, since it is lighter and smaller. I did see some reviews that the GG sil-nylon sagged a lot in rain, wish there was a sil-poly version. Here are the results:

Get the X-Mid 2P. Weight difference is negligible and you'll have room for your pack, boots, etc.

I would personally never buy an actual 1P tent, might as well get a bivy at that point.

Normally would agree but xmid footprints are larger and tougher to deal with already in a 1p, and their handle on condensation is better than most solo “bivy” tents. Just something to keep in mind with that particular tent model.

I have the xmid 2p, it's great but been trying to cut weight, currently looking into the xmid 1 pro.

Fair enough, but you'll be giving up a lot of space - partially because of physical dimensions, partially because you now have to worry about not touching condensation.

Amazon kids tent. $15 I've used one of these as a cache tent and backyard tent. I got a lightweight tarp to throw over it if it rains.

+3 (I think) on the dursten x-mid 1p

After September, I run the x-mid solid without the inner tent but with the factory groundsheet. There's plenty of room for me without the inner tent...I would consider it spacious.

Good point on the condensation. After further research I most likely won't go with the durston pro. I can't get on board with the bivie, tarp idea. Maybe a tipi with a stove during the rifle deer hunt in late october. I can save almost a pound going from the durston mid 2 solid to the mid 1 with the mesh.

Cheap skate in me wants the lashan to work for $150 on Amazon, but I feel like the extra money for the Big Agnes on sale for $280 might be a better investment.

Did you see the link to the 6 moons closeout I posed above? Id definitely go that way for $174 vs the lanshan. I have a BA Fly creek 2 and its pretty small inside and the ingle door in the front is a PITA. For freestanding X-Dome 1+ or Nemo OSMO hornet

I hear you on the bivy + tarp thing, I see nothing but downsides over a tent.

Why not get the X-Mid Pro 2P instead? Light and spacious.

Yeah that does look like a good deal. It looks like the dimensions on the 6 moons is right there with the BA. I've had a floorless tipi for a while and I think I want to try a regular tent like this.

The price is something else. If someone is on a really tight budget this tent might be solid option.
