As long as you get some practice in the off season, hunting pheasants with the 28ga is a lot of fun. I grew up in SD during some of the best pheasant years there was and hunted with a 20ga then 12 as I got older. Now I spend my summer shooting skeet and getting plenty of practice in. I'll pick my Beretta Onyx 28ga every time for chasing roosters unless it's crap weather. With 2 3/4" 4 or 5 shot it drops them just like a 20 or 12 would at some surprising ranges.

How’s the pheasant in SD these days? I shot some yesterday morning but it wasn’t a hunt. More like a live clay shoot. Sure, it was fun and I was invited. But I’d rather hunt them the more traditional way. I don’t have a bird dog other than a lab so my only way to hunt them would be to guided or get invited. Lol
