Hey guys,

Is there much point in carrying any calls for 2nd rifle elk in CO public land? I'm thinking they're probably not going to respond to a locate bugle but maybe I'm wrong. Any thoughts on what calls might be worth the won't in the pack?

Thanks

I'd be packing my bugle and cow calls for sure. I've bugled in elk third season. All it takes is one late cow to set them off and it will seem like late September again.

I would take calls as well. Seen them come running, and also run away from calls. This year had a bull that would not stop bugling first two hours of daylight the last three days of 2nd season......he never did come over though.

indeed! In the area I hunt, they seem to rut a week or so later than some other areas I've hunted. Last season I located more than a few bulls and groups of cows by cow calling, elk talk year round. Lost cow calls and soft herd talk always comes in handy.

I always have a cow call. I have gotten some Elk to stop and turn around with a few chirps (too bad that was during my deer season)

I slowed down a bull that was trotting in front of us with a cow call but my poor nephew couldn't get the rifle ready in time. They do help.
