Calling in coyotes

Any recommendations on specific mouth call brands? Do you have any moving decoy setup while calling? I want to start calling them in but not ready to drop some change on something like a FoxPro electronic call.
really any mouth call will do. If you call ducks or geese you can run a predator call. Just use your voice and some emotion not just straight blow into it. My go to call I've had since college is the Randy Anderson Ki-Yi. This past winter I killed 6 yotes in 4 stands with that and nothing else...just making a couple stands in the morning killing time on my late season deer hunt. I've killed countless yotes with that and a mouse squeaker over the years.

Also, you don't need a FoxPro...I hunted for probably a decade with a Primos Turbo Dog and saw zero difference running that or my buddies FoxPro or LuckyDuck. Infact, during tournaments my buddy started grabbing my Turbo Dog because of a couple of the sounds he liked better on my cheap Turbo Dog. I might by another e-caller as mine took a crap on me finally...but I think mouth calls are more effective. I have also never killed a coyote due to any coyote vocal except a pup in distress or sounding like a whimpering injured adult.

Dont give up on their prey drive! About 1pm and near 85 degrees. Less than 2 minutes into some cottontail distress and she was right on top of the call. I think it’s all about proximity during the summer. IMG_7626.jpeg

One more thing? And seems silly but I can't stress this enough! Get all your fidgets out BEFORE... you press play on the eCaller! Make SURE!!... you're 100% completely ready to go.

Be Ready to be Deadly, BEFORE you press Play!

LongStory Shorter blew an opportunity because one day this one came running in at the 8 second mark!... 8 seconds!!! and I was in the middle of fidgeting with my BeardBuster Turkey Seat cushion thing, getting settled more in.

With how much effort it takes and the long drives I have to do across SoCal in the OC / Inland empire / LA areas here in our traffic... you have no idea how upset I was with myself that I caused that opportunity to be blown like that!

So I know better now.

Up UNTIL that point? Such a thing was inconceivable to me... as when they had come in up until then... (only been hunting about 11yrs so far) it was never that rapidly. And sometimes it'd be the BobCats sneaking in first to check it out, before they hear coyotes coming in in the distance and split themselves. Before then.. if they came in? They came in usually more towards the end of a calling session.

So yeah... totally caught me off guard. I even had put down the shotgun, so I had my two hands free to fuss with the sit cushion straps a lil more for better comfort. Doh!

P.S. if you're OK with doing Mouth Calls, (i.e. so you're Ok with the idea of the predators coming directly towards You) you should seriously consider checking-out getting a Pocket-Prey Digital Caller as well.

It's about the size of a box of rifle ammo, and their latest model has 3 different sounds.

Their original sound, is this Baby Cottontail sorta thing. And it even works at drawing in on Maternal instinct of other Rabbits to, like if ya play it with less volume so you're only reaching their ears nearer by to you.

This device works very well, and you can use it to give you a break from blowing your Mouth Calls. I always rotate where it's pointing in front of me while doing playback, such that the critter perceives it to be more realistic as well, in the way that it will sound to their ear. Mimicking the way thrashing-around in real distress would cause their mouth to get pointed all over the place.

Lemme find a recent pic that shows the size of the Pocket Prey so you can see what I'm talking about.

You can see it in this picture hear beside the box of Hornady 35gr NTX .223 Rem.20221002_133154.jpg
