CALLING ALL 2nd GEN TACOMA OWNERS

Mine's a 2012 Sport and have resisted the urge to mod it much. I run slightly oversized tires (265/70/17's)- studded Nokian Hakkapeliita LT 2's in the "winter" and KDO2's the rest of the year- both E rated. I've got some aluminum skid plates up front (Ricochet Off-Road) and a soft-topper on the back.

I have a small led light bar that will be mounted on my front bumper guard (Avid Off Road)- have to straighten out the guard a little (deer bent it a wee bit).

I do carry a pretty complete recovery kit- large hand winch, hi-lift jack, straps, traction boards, shovels, chains, etc.

As a game warden I got into (and mostly out of :)) a lot of terse situations with my trucks and can say with certainty that my Tacoma runs circles around all of the full sized trucks I've used.

What do you mean by hand winch? Like a come along or something like a hand crank that you use on a boat to trailer it?

This thread is WAYYY better than the 1st gen thread!

Speaking off cool (yet expensive) shtuff for tacomas. I bought a spot in line for a GFC camper, then I lucked into another spot a few months earlier. If anyone is considering one, ive got my 2nd build spot available if anyone wants to take over the deposit.

My 12 only has 72k on it; I was looking at 2020’s when they actually had some rare incentives on Tacoma’s, then I came to my senses :D

2010 was a good season......one moose with a rifle and another with my taco
Glad you're ok Vern. I hit a moose with my dually this fall, first moose I've hit in 40 years of being an Alaskan. Sure glad I wasn't in my taco.

06 tacoma here. 232K miles and still going strong. Got screwed on the frame rust recall as my local dealership said my frame was fine. I crawled underneath several months later and noticed a fist sized hole on the inside of my frame. Few other places too. I had a local welder weld in new pieces so thats good now.

I bought a used 2016 tundra to haul the family around and love that truck as well. But the taco will always hold a special place.

I got a new frame at 280k or so. Didn’t realize how much of a blessing that was at the time.

@Finch I’m surprised your dealer didn’t fight tooth and nail for you.

Don't get me started on this dealer. When i first bought the truck, I opted for the frame coating and took my truck back when they resprayed it a few years later when they first started realizing there was a problem. Took it back to be inspected when they were deciding who needed frames. They "inspected' it but overlooked that spot. My fault for not crawling underneath at that time myself to verify.

Anyway, i called them and stopped by. Even called corporate to complain. No luck. I'll drive it until I can't. A new frame would've been nice though.
