I am debating my last rifle purchase. Caliber will be either 7RM or 300WM. I am aware of the price and price differences of the following on my list. Carbon wrapped barrel with break is a must.

Christensen Arms
Fierce
Proof Research
Cooper

Experience with any of these and warranty appreciated. Also, am I missing any. Having one custom built is off the table.
TIA

You are missing Snowy Mountain Rifles from your list of rifles that meet your criteria of carbon wrapped barrel with brake. Need more information on budget and needs of the rifle to provide more information. There are thousands of dollar differences between companies you listed and the rifles they provide.

Proof Research Glacier Ti is a heck of a nice rifle but you will pay for it. I would really take a look at Alamo Precision as well, they build some really fantastic rifles for a reasonable price and do a great job. You could get a similar build to the Proof for less and have as good a rifle IMHO.

I just built my “last rifle”. My suggestion would be to find a competent, well respected gunsmith within driving distance and have it built exactly how you want. If there is any minor issue you can just drive over and have it tweaked. For me the rifle was a 30-06, model 70 action, #2 hart barrel, brown precision stock.

I would say:

- 7 mag if you plan to shoot more deer than elk

- 300 if you plan to shoot more elk than deer

- I am a Christensen fan and have a 7 mag Ridgeline that I have had great success with and plan to have it forever. If I were to buy it over it might be a traverse for the raised comb.

- I like the fierce, proof and cooper rifles but have no first hand experience. I wouldn’t hesitate with any of them, it would probably become a desire versus value decision for me.

Good luck

as I get older, I am less and less interested in shooting my magnums. I will be down to 65# on my next (last bow) and my last rifle will be something that doesn’t beat up my shoulder.

I would get a Bighorn, Defiance, or Impact action, screw a prefit barrel on it and throw it in a chassis. It will be twice the rifle anyone is selling off the shelf and you won’t even need to talk to a real person.

This is the future.

I have a Fierce and they make a nice rifle, but I haven't shot any of the others on your list.

I own a Fierce 7RM and a CA 22-250, gave away a CA 300WM. I would go with the Proof. I feel like CA's build quality used to be much better. And I don't think Fierce is any better. I would much rather shoot one of my Tikka's than Fierce or CA.

You just need a better brake and some great hearing protection.

I’m in Central Texas also. Which gunsmith did you use?

Mark Pharr at Tumbleweed Customs in Round Rock. Used Mark Brown at Brown Precision for the stock. PM me and I can give you their cell contact if needed. I have been using Mark Pharr for 7-8 years and he builds a superbly accurate rifle.

I have had a few last rifles. The most recent was a CA Ridgeline. A year ago I ordered a custom from Alex Wheeler to replace the CA. Received the custom a few months ago. It IS probably my last big game rifle, but I have an itch for another custom...

Take a look at the Terminator muzzle brakes. They are now available in the US. I have one on my Browning BAR 30-06 and my Henry 45-70. They are expensive but worth it. Take a look on YouTube. They do a bunch of comparisons of different MBs.

Just read your post and can offer some info on Proof. I recently bought a new Proof Elevation in 270 win with the light sendero stock. It is a beautiful rifle. Feels great in the hand and on the shoulder. It shoots 145 eldxs into moa 5-shot groups off of a pack on a portable table. But, at the first range session my uncle noticed that the firing pin strikes were not always in the middle of the primer. This seemed odd and I sent their customer service an email with a picture of the brass. An hour later I got a reply saying they wanted to see the rifle and they sent a ups shipping label. I sent it last Wednesday. Also, when I bought it, i called the dealer direct that had it on Gunbroker and they dropped the price $200 over the phone.
