Hey everyone, in desperate need of some help. My partner is built like an Ox. At 6'3" with a 52" chest and 40" waist, he can throw half an elk on his shoulder and carry it to the trail-head. However, he isn't molded for "athletic fit". Anybody have any suggestions for quality gear cut with a more traditional fit, or less "athletic"? Kuiu and Sitka are out, probably First Lite as well but haven't tried yet. Any thoughts on Kryptek? Anyone building Toray, stunner stretch, DWR parachute pants? Thanks for any input.

This is about the size I am and I'm comfortable in the Sitka mountain pants in size 40, and any of their 3XL tops fit me fine, not too snug for me and I hate slim fitting stuff. You can find a lot of Sitka 3X stuff on Amazon. I've got a Kuiu Tiburon top in 3XL that fits well too, just not quite as long in the torso. I like it a lot though.
Haven't tried the KUIU pants and in my experience the Kryptek stuff is short in the torso.
The Core4Element stuff in 2XL seems to fit good too. Just some ideas. I have also heard First Lite runs bigger than the other brands as well. Maybe some other people will pitch in as well.

He should fit fine in any XXL first lite except the Llano. Sitka XXXL as stated above should be plenty big as well.

I'm similarly sized and a 3xl in Kuiu fits fine with a merino base layer and heavy wool shirt and down vest underneath. Kuiu 2 xl is too small.

Also same build. I wear Sitka every year. Krytpek also works well I own a lot of Firstlite too. Most everything I own fits me great. The Kuiu gear I have also works great. The Jackets I have to size up to 3xl for Kuiu The Attack pants I have are size 40 waist 32 inch inseam and fit great. I don't think you are limited by the company you go with I can attest to most all of them and have no problems being comfortable in any of the Major brands.

How are the KUIU merino shirts sized compared to First Lite and Sitka? Anyone?

Thanks for everyone's input, greatly appreciated. Maybe we got some one-off pieces or had different expectations because it looks like Sitka and Kuiu is working for most. Some more Kuiu is in the mail, so hopefully find something that works. On a personal note, with no physical changes, I now need XL in Sitka, but my older Sitka in L is just fine. Not sure what that is about? Thanks again and have a great season.

I have same chest and have a 44 in waist. First lite is where it's at for me. They used to have 3xl but 2xl should fit him pretty well. Core4 is a little roomier too

If he has a long torso, Sitka's uppers WILL NOT WORK. I am 6'5" with only a 33" inseam and a 31.5" draw length and Sitka's shirts and jackets are at least 2" too short in the arms and torso. Their pants however are generously sized in the thighs and are one of the few that fit me.

First Lite is the only option as far as tops go; maybe Kuiu if you order several sizes too big. I had some weird problems with sizing on everything I've tried Kuiu. I also wear FL's Corrugates and they fit me quite well. If you order your waist size they will be a little tight in the legs but not bad, but you can order a size up and they will have a nice loose fit. FL is a little complicated in size. Anything that has been in their lineup since last year or earlier (with the exception of the Llano) you will want to size down from your t-shirt size. Anything new (Cirus, Vapor, Seak, Woodburry, aerowool) and the Llano you will want to order your t-shirt size. Don't bother with the Kanabs as their legs were so small I couldn't even lift my leg. If length is going to be an issue, stay away from the Chama and the puffy vest.

Also, if you are okay with non-camo pants another good option is the Duluth Flex Dry on the Fly pants. They are very comfortable with good room in the thighs/seat.

I haven't tried much Kryptek, but since length is such an issue for me and the few items I tried weren't quite long enough so I haven't bothered.

Couldn't of said it better myself, although most of Kuiu's stuff I've had was generous on the length, now getting your shoulders in it may be a problem, but they make 3xl in some stuff and I was swimming in it in the mid section.

For reference 6'2" 245 34"inseam 36-38 in waist depending on time of year.

I'm 6'0" with a 56"chest and 44"waist. I use sitka gear almost exclusively, with the xxxl jackets and xxl or 44 pants.

My advice:above the waist lightweight sitka base layer for wicking &warm temps, sitka traverse zip for cool weather or heavy base layer (core heavyweight is warm & packs down more, but has very little wind resistance by itself), and the cheapest primaloft jacket (60g or 100g) you can get for layering under the jacket in cold weather. For a jacket, either the sitka 90% or jetstream, I prefer the 90%.

Below the waist: merino boxers, merino bottoms (cheapest you can get in 190-250 weight, check ebay, 6pm.com, stp), sitka core heavyweight, for colder weather a primaloft layer ( ll bean primaloft long John's @ $100, or cabelas instinct hybrid pants - currently $60 in online bargain cave), and sitka pants. I prefer the sitka timberline or 90% pants, size 44.

I also use sitka cloudburst rainwear, pants and jackets both 3xl, the 2xl pants are pretty trim and not as layering friendly on me. The cloudburst rain gear also serves as my shell for rain and really high winds. It is supposedly bit as bomb proof as the stormfront, but is about 60% the price, lighter and packs smaller, and I have put it through the wringer with no damage - it's plenty burly.

I have lived your partner's issues, and found that these work just fine. I just make sure to keep the outer layer optifade - it works crazy good, can't believe the stuff I've gotten way with with deer staring right at me - and the cheapest base layers aND insulating layers I could find under it.

I'm a big guy 50" chest, big waist, 6'. I wear Sitka all day long. I am leaning down, and I'm actually moving down into XL Sitka tops. I have some 40 Sitka pants from heavier days and I'm swimming in them now...even my big legs; one with a knee brace on it. They fit fine. I did have trouble fitting my calves and thighs into Kuiu pants...even their 40/XXL stuff. I don't have the abs for Kuiu.

I'm not that tall at 5'9" but am a powerlifter and always have issues with pants. Most pants in my waist size (40) are too small thru my thighs and ass. Was running First Lite Corrugates but they're a little too "skinny jeanish" for me in the legs and calves.

Just had some Duluth Dry on the Fly cargos come in today and as soon as I put them on I knew I'd be ordering a couple more. Fit through the thighs and calves is relaxed but not overly "baggy". Just felt comfortable.

My Corrugates will be up for sale tomorrow.
