Bugle Report

I've been out from sunrise to dark the last two days and haven't heard a single bugle, and I've been into elk every day so far, plus the elk are still in their summer patterns here.

Completely agree. I don't remember an elk season that has seemed so early. They are flat out not vocalizing, just barely at night even. Which is crazy as usually I have no issues. Gonna be a late year I think.

They know I won't be out there until the 15th so they are saving up their bugles for me...they know I need all the help I can get!

I got a bunch of bugles this past weekend, even called in a monster only to get winded right before i could release the arrow. Only seen one bull with cows though and the small bulls dont even seem to interested in the cow calls. Just kinda weird so far...hoping things pick up a little more in a week or so .

My neighbors in Denver say they've been hearing bugles for the last week straight....

Little do they know it's coming from my garage as I practice :D HAHAHAHAHAHA

Gila update. They’re talking more at first and last light. I killed a bull out of a herd of about 40 that had multiple bulls in it that screamed for an hour as I was quartering my bull right at and after dark.

90% of the herds I saw had mature bulls with them

What part of the Gila? PM me if you'd rather. I'm headed back to C. It was really quiet over the weekend.

Saturday morning - One bull bugling off and on up until about 830 on the move. Heard one hunter sound off also. Nothing in the evening.

Sunday morning - Saw one bull with a dozen cows just after daybreak, but no bugling. Took 2 hours to get where they had been but couldnt be certain where they went.

Sunday afternoon at 3ish - bull bugled at me from his bed (I think) 3 times over a half hour, never moving Hungbout for a while hoping he'd show, but wind got swirly and I never heard from him again.

Sunday sunset - heard one bugle but was far enough and enough wind that I couldn't tell where it was. Could have been a hunter but I dont think so.

Monday morning - Not a peep.

I heard a few week bugles the last two weekends in Colorado. My buddy reported a few bulls that were all fired up on the private land Monday evening.

Friend is hunting Wyoming last week and heading back out today for the weekend. Says it’s been really quiet. I’m heading to Idaho tomorrow morning for 8 days. Hoping things pick up

I've been in SW Montana the past two days, been into bugling bulls both days. Weekend crowd is coming though, may take a couple days off.

All nocturnal the past 5 days in southern Wyoming. Folded up early and came home. Saw some decent bulls, but couldn't make it happen

Anyone been out this week?

I hunted the first 7 days in southern Colorado (one bulll read the script, 2 others responded, otherwise it was quiet) and am headed back tor another 7 days on this weekend. Just curious if things are getting started?

Heard 2 bulls bugle at night in 4 days. Saw elk every day. Bigger bulls didn't seem to be with cows yet, the raghorns were with em though. Heard tons of Honda's, Polaris's, Kawasaki's, and CanAm's bugling from the ATV trail 2000' below though. Pretty entertaining.

Bulls were bugling last week/ weekend, past couple of days I've heard two bugles. Big bulls I was watching have left looking for cows I'm guessing, small bulls are still out but not with cows. SW MT. Off to plan B.

Didn't help that yesterday there was a guy bugling, I use that term loosely, that sounded like he was whistling through a sewer pipe.

Southern New Mexico: Sunday heard bugling off and on for the hour or so I was scouting. Saw about 5 herds with about 20-25 elk in each herd with 1 herd bull and 2 to 3 satellite bulls each. Several were fighting and running off the satellites. 3 days away!
