No affiliation with hank but I liked his hunt gather cook And I have hit up his website for other recipes.

This one covers meat from BBQ to fancy stuff. Most of the recipes aren't going to require you to go to culinary school. Some good discussion of butchering and meat care that is helpful for those of us still relatively new.

I can't wait to give some of them a whirl.

His simple venison roast recipe (reverse sear) changed me into a roast lover this year. That is a great book, even if I skip over some, I mean all, of the offal stuff.

Does the book provide more than what could be found online? The reviews seem really good, but I guess I am trying to convince myself the book is worth it, when there are so many great recipes online.

He doesn't get paid much for the recipes on the website while he gets paid better for the book... the book is a nice resource to have.

I just bought a copy, eagerly awaiting its arrival. Big fan of Hank's and glad to support him. He is a tremendous resource and an awesome advocate of hunting. We need more guys like him representing hunting the right way.

That books is of very high quality. Buy it to support him and not your Internet advertisers and you will also learn a lot of new recipes that may be up for trying. You won't regret it!

One thing I really like about Hank is that he puts his recipes to the test on normal people before publishing, his website is the main avenue by which he tests recipes by putting them out there are taking in the feedback. I get the feeling from a lot of cookbooks that their recipes were only tried once, they took a cool picture and then continued pumping out recipes. Not the case with Hank.

I can't say for sure but I'd guess that 70% of the recipes in his books are on the website, but I buy the books to support him and because I'm old school and really enjoy the experience of reading through a cookbook rather than looking at a computer screen when I'm thinking about what to make for dinner.

Just got my copy yesterday. Looks like some great recipes to try. Definitely thinking about saving caul and kidneys next fall. Happy to support Hank Shaw with the purchase.

I recognize about half of what is in the book from his website and a few other places. Truth is you could google venison roast and never run out of recipes for the rest of you life.

I like his other books, articles and podcasts. He is a pretty good writer and very good cook. I like that most of what he is publishing is accessible enough for anyone to try. That is by design I am sure because he does a lot of very complex processing of his foraged foods. Most everything in the book is a bit beyond the basics but seems easy enough to try.

I am glad I bought it.
