Brown Bear Ammo

Thanks again for all of the input from everyone, this is all great information and very useful. Thank you again.

Are you a resident? If not If ask your guide/outfitter what they prefer for their clients. They have a lot of experience and it’s normally a good plan, IMO, to show up what they like…gives everyone confidence. I agree just about any bullet is going to do the job out of that cannon but the vast majority of my guide friends up there like the tipped coppers to promote quick expansion and deep penetration.

Thanks for the input. No I'm a nonresident and will be with an outfitter. I did reach out to him previously and am waiting to hear back. Thanks again.

Sounds like a fantastic hunt! Good luck and be safe. My 300 PRC loves the Barnes 208 LRX bullet and when I pull the trigger I know exactly where the bullet is going. For me the gun and bullet combination are confidence inspiring. Search for a load that inspires that confidence in your platform, Barnes makes a great bullet if your gun shoots them. When I'm able to recover a bullet I'm always amazed to see how they hold together and mushroom. This bullet went through both shoulders of a 575 lb MN black bear and stopped just inside the hide out of a .308 Win (pre 300 PRC) 168 gr going in 167.3 gr as pictured. Haven't been able to retrieve a bullet out of my 300 PRC yet, nothing stops it. Going to South Africa with it in 42 days!

Dang, that's awesome to hear! I'd love to run the Barnes coppers in the 208, but I think my 1 in 10 twist is a touch too slow to stabilize them given their length, that's my only hold up with those, otherwise I'd love to run them in this gun. That's very impressive though, very confidence-inspiring! Good luck in Africa, that sounds like an amazing trip, we'll have to see the pictures on here when you get back.

Yes you may be right, I'm running a 1-8 twist. The 30 cal LRX is available in a 175 weight also, might work for you or go to the TTSX in a 180 gr. Great bullets, Most guns shoot them well,
