Breakthrough Clean Technologies...What is the chemical?

stainless
I would just use CLR then, I’ve found it to be very effective for steel 22 baffles, and it’s much less expensive. I soak mine for a day or so and any remaining lead deposits usually just wipe right off with ease. I do use Breakthrough for my aluminum baffles only because most other effective chemicals aren’t aluminum safe.

I just purchased the Breakthrough Clean Technologies cleaning kit. I don't mind paying once to try it but the price for this stuff is beyond ludicrous for continuous applications. I'd like to better understand what I'm buying to see if there is a cheaper alternative. Can 5-10% DMSO be purchased in bulk cheaper?

Re-use the liquid. Let it sit for a while to get solids separated after use.

Please be very careful with DMSO or any products containing DMSO. It is a very good solvent for many chemicals, but it readily passes through skin & can carry whatever is on your skin or in the fluid into your bloodstream. It’s one of the chemicals that can easily cause major health issues or death, I certainly wouldn’t want it in my shop.

Is DMSO the chemical used in Breakthrough?

I don’t know anything about their product, I just noticed the discussion considering using DMSO as a less expensive alternative. Fairly risky material to be used outside a lab.

It amazes me how many of the chemicals in household products and at hardware stores are incredibly dangerous & would never be allowed in an industrial facility.

Many gun cleaning solvents are highly toxic or potent carcinogens. People use them daily with no PPE. Most of them won’t readily penetrate skin. DMSO will & it’ll transport other chemicals across that barrier as well.
