Breaking Bad vs The Sopranos

So I'm a huge fan of the show Breaking Bad. It's my top pick of all time but it's constantly compared to The Sopranos.

I just finished watching The Sopranos. What a commitment but hey, it's winter. I honestly don't see how it could be considered the best. I've rewatched BB a few times but don't think I could commit to doing that with the Sopranos.

The sopranos was great in its day but also didn’t age well. Not sure if it’s the writing or not but breaking bad could have been made yesterday and would still hold up today. The wire holds up over time - similar old school feel

Yes, I might have to put The Wire over the Sopranos.

Combine Better Call Saul in the BB world and it's by far the best I've watched.

Loved the sopranos but not in the same league as BB.

BB will be studied and broken down for a long long time. It seems to be aging very well.

I’ve rewatched The Sopranos 2-3x. I actually gave up on BB about halfway through but eventually came back and finished it.

I watch clips of both on FB regularly but would say I found the Sopranos more entertaining.

Mad Men was great. Don Draper and Tony Soprano are two of the best characters ever on TV.

Breaking Bad was a great show, but an argument could be made that there were two maybe three other characters on the show that were done better than Walter White.

I liked mad men the best out of the three.

Band of brothers is my favorite tv ever made

Someone above mentioned them coming from different times - they're capturing different things.

Different social vibes, different needs, different resonance...different generational tone.

Pre 9/11 was a different world, not just globally, but with media especially - it was still a time where you couldn't pause the TV, and there was no binge watching later, unless you wanted to buy all the VHS or DVDs for it. That matters for the impact waiting each week, then between seasons, has on the experience.

Back then, The Sopranos was an epic experience, savored over years with friends, right as the world was going nuts and changing course hard.

And I binge watched Breaking Bad over a week or two.

A year or so ago I went back to watch The Sopranos again, and couldn't get past the second episode.

That actually hurt a little.
