So I'm a huge fan of the show Breaking Bad. It's my top pick of all time but it's constantly compared to The Sopranos.

I just finished watching The Sopranos. What a commitment but hey, it's winter. 😄 I honestly don't see how it could be considered the best. I've rewatched BB a few times but don't think I could commit to doing that with the Sopranos.

Which was your favorite?

The sopranos was great in its day but also didn’t age well. Not sure if it’s the writing or not but breaking bad could have been made yesterday and would still hold up today. The wire holds up over time - similar old school feel

Yes, I might have to put The Wire over the Sopranos.

Loved the sopranos but not in the same league as BB.

BB will be studied and broken down for a long long time. It seems to be aging very well.

Haven’t watched either, my wife watches Saul so I’ve seen a few episodes.

I’m more of a Trailer park boys kinda guy

Mad Men was great. Don Draper and Tony Soprano are two of the best characters ever on TV.

Breaking Bad was a great show, but an argument could be made that there were two maybe three other characters on the show that were done better than Walter White.

Someone above mentioned them coming from different times - they're capturing different things.

Different social vibes, different needs, different resonance...different generational tone.

Pre 9/11 was a different world, not just globally, but with media especially - it was still a time where you couldn't pause the TV, and there was no binge watching later, unless you wanted to buy all the VHS or DVDs for it. That matters for the impact waiting each week, then between seasons, has on the experience.

Back then, The Sopranos was an epic experience, savored over years with friends, right as the world was going nuts and changing course hard.

And I binge watched Breaking Bad over a week or two.

A year or so ago I went back to watch The Sopranos again, and couldn't get past the second episode.

That actually hurt a little.

Both great of course. Breaking Bad for me. BB was one of the first big hits that broke open the New Mexico film scene and the tax credits that made so many other productions come there in the following years. I worked on Independence Day 2 on the lot there in ABQ one year and saw Bob Odenkirk walking to his set next door for Better Call Saul. Small World. It's also cool to see the local landmarks around town where they shot the series. Los Pollos Hermanos pictured.Twisters.jpgOIP (1).jpg

I'm no sophisticated viewer that understands symbolism, etc. I just put it on and bake. I enjoy them both, seems like there's more "filler" in Sopranos. Didn't think much of the prequel movie.

I’ve never been able to finish BB. I don’t find any character very likable. I thoroughly enjoyed BCS. I’m on my second time watching BCS. It holds up.

The Sopranos was pretty good. Not my favorite show.

I prefer The Wire to any other show. I lived in Baltimore from 2001-2005. That show captured the time and place really well. It is also full of life lessons about how bureaucracy works and how systems interconnect. There are some deep truths in that show and also a few deep lies masquerading as truths. On the whole, it just doesn’t get much better.

I preferred Sopranos. Couldn't finish BB and got tired of grinding through it.

Band of Brothers and Dope Sick are top shelf. Michael Keatons performance in Dope Sick is one of the best I've seen.
