Brass life

Picked up some Nosler brass, what is expected life if running moderate loads and staying off max? I’ll be inspecting every time but just curious what I could expect on low and high end.

Dependent on caliber. Something like 308, 30-06 I don’t see why you couldn’t get 10+ loadings. Bump shoulda back minimally and anneal a few times and you may get quite a bit of life out of them.

A belted magnum you might get 5 or so. With the belted stuff you gotta watch out for the separation at the belt.

My buddy and I have gotten 7-10 loadings from 300 win and as much as 20 loadings from 243. Heck, I shot out a 243 barrel with no more than 75 pieces of brass.

I’ve got some Peterson brass 7 RM that’s on their 6-7th firing with only one aneal and looking strong still. Shoot ‘em til they split?!

I get 3 firings out of Nosler 7 RM brass, but I'm loading max charges on the 2nd and 3rd firing. Can't fault the brass if you're pushing on it really hard.

I’m never overly concerned with a split neck. Case head separation is much different and much more common with belted cases. They’ll stretch and separate just above the belt.

After the first couple of firings if you are properly bumping the shoulder only .002-.003” it will headspace on the shoulder just like any other case.

Correct. But you still run the possibility of the area just above the belt getting way out of spec and eventually it won’t fit in the gun, therefore you have to bump it all down. They do make a die just for that, but it’s slipped my mind who makes it. Maybe Wilson?

I like federal and winchester brass. 3006, 243, 350 Legend give me 10+ loads w moderate velocities 2900 for 06, 2950 for 243.

Hot 357 mag rifle loads go about 6 reloads before failure. Starline brass there.
