Brainstorm Solutions for the Western "Tag Crisis"

They’re looking into it because of Netflix and SM platforms that service the entire population. Rokslide isn’t on your non hunting friends radar, ever. No one has heard of it.
Rokslide and places like it are the first stop after the seed is planted.

There's also the Rokcast and other podcasts that are deeply involved with the IG world.

Without the seed there is no plant.

Again, no one has heard of it. So it doesn’t manufacture demand. It only fuels the curious minds set on hunting.

Rokcast doesn’t even remotely compare to the big ones. Im ok with getting rid of everything if it makes you happy though.

Rokslide is on page 1 of google when searching "elk hunting resources"
I just typed in "DIY Idaho Elk". A Rokslide thread was the 3rd result. A unit number can be added, and you'll get a thread specifically about that unit. If the unit number was in the thread and has since been removed, it still shows up in a google search that specifies the unit. Many of these threads are direct accounts of NRs from other regions, detailing the process for applying and drawing a tag, e-scouting, and the successful hunt.

Create and support (financially and with your time) local sportsman’s groups that hire lobbyists to fight special interests and NR lobbying for specials seasons, weapons, increased NR tags, etc., any regulations that make it easier to kill animals and reduce resident opportunity. Stop shooting does unless there are obvious external impacts requiring their management. Stop worrying about what’s going on in other states and focus on improving conditions in your own state. Look at out of state hunts as a luxury and be grateful for whatever opportunity you get as a nonresident. Let residents of those states fight with their state government. I used to email my senators and other states’ regarding public land transfer, regs, etc. I don’t waste my time with that anymore. It’s clear most residents don’t want me hunting in their home states, non resident tag prices are ridiculous, and I completely understand that. So I have mostly stopped hunting out of state, stopped advocating on their behalf, and now focus solely on whatever I can do to improve my home state.

#rokslide is tagged onto a lot of public posts that show up in IG feeds.

I like this place, too, but that doesn't change what the reality is. It wasn't long ago that we could easily and openly discuss unit numbers and draw odds.

For the Land of Makebelieve: Have the western elk states form a compact. NR can only draw one tag in the compact states.
This would also help thin out the influencers bouncing between many states for likes and followers. That's a win for all hunters trying to draw tags.

Ok fair as I don’t use IG/FB so can’t argue there.
What is r3?

Something like Recruit, reactivate, and retention. All the “non profits” and hunting related corporations push it for one purpose - revenue.

I’ll try to get out at least once a week predator hunting.
I’ll continue to volunteer my time planting bitter brush, gathering seeds and rolling up abandoned barbed wire fencing. If the weather causes winter feeding, I’ll volunteer my truck and time to haul feed and distribute it to feeding sites.
I’ll also continue to attend open houses, and watch the legislative session to see what those jokers have up their sleeves.
I won’t advocate for a reduction in NR tags, but I sure won’t advocate for more.

Which states are selling the under priced tags to NRs while screwing over the residents? Would love to learn about them.
New Mexico NR tags are a fraction of the going rate of landowner tags. Landowner gets $5-10k, but the state only gets <$1k. NM residents can’t afford landowner tags so they all go out of state. That is selling our wildlife for a fraction of their worth and letting landowners pocket the rest.

Whether you like NM quotas is a different conversation.
