Been too busy to fish much this year, but got invited to play hooky from work last Friday and it was a great choice. Awesome trip with my dad and his neighbor (neighbor’s boat).

That’s a nice halibut! Someone brought a Pacific Halibut into the Santa Cruz harbor a couple weeks ago, they were fishing deep.

Paddled out Friday morning and caught this Barred Sand Bass, pretty unusual for the Monterey Bay, more of a Southern California/Mexico fish. Cooked up great, got some really nice fat fillets off, firm. 10/10 would recommend.

I’m currently on a fishing trip. Kayak fishing the sound and surf fishing for blues. The redfish out of the kayak are a ball as long as the wind isn’t too bad. But, casting to schools of blue fish on the beach pretty much tops my list of enjoyable things to do.

Had a school push some mullet into the last break. Feet off the sand. They averaged about 12-13”. But, anyone who’s casted to a school
Of feeding blue fish knows that size doesn’t matter. They hit anything that flashes. And hit it hard and fast.

I had a ball this morning. This one was about average. Unfortunately it ended as quickly as it started. And, it’s not often you catch them in such numbers this time of year.

We were offshore halibut fishing yesterday, and we are doing the same the next 2 days so I really didn’t want to drag myself out of bed at 3 this morning but I did… paid off with a limit of nice fish by 6am… probably take a nap today 😏

Thanks, I’m lucky to live close to a good fishery I know very well. Unless I can get my wife out with a good morning tide, that may be my last springer trip of the year, both were hens today and going straight borax on the eggs and I’ll be chasing summers now for my fun fishing… been terrible the past couple years, but it’s still more fun to me. If springers didn’t taste so good, I wouldn’t fish them… I like being away from people

Today was pretty mellow though, not many boats, and I think Scott was the only person that knows what I had this morning… I was motoring out of there when the herd was showing up 😉 that’s how I like it, keep a low profile
