Was using an 82# Strother, then I bought a Carbon Element and shot 72# now I have ordered a longbow at 65#.. High poundage never really bothered me but i have friends that still cant draw my 72# Element
Currently -- Carbon Element RKT at 71#. 2011 season Carbon Matrix PLUS at 69#. 2010 season Carbon Matrix at 72#. 2009 season AlphaMax 35 at 72#. 2008 season Katera at 84.5#. 2007 season Drenalin at 71#.
Shoot the weight that works best for you!! If you can draw it with confidence and can draw it in ANY situation then it doesn't matter what ANYONE else thinks about your set-up. I personally don't need 80# anymore. Yes the KE is great!!! but right now with my set-up at 71# and 28" is pumping out 77 foot pounds of KE with a 390 grain arrow. What more do I need??
Shooting 70lbs right now on my current bow..I antelope hunted with a custom PSE Vendetta XL "with EVO cams" last fall and I shot it at like 75lbs...It was so smooth 75lbs felt good on it.
my current setup is a Carbon Matrix @ 82lbs..... i used to shoot a 90lb Tribute and an 82lb Old Glory with Barnesdale limbs then i switched to Hoyt a few years back. I've got a 28.5" draw and I shoot a 497grain arrow and I like a little speed so it's what i have to do to get it without shooting some 5 or 6" brace height speed bow. I'm not nearly as Sasquatch as you Aron, but 80# is do able even in the cold.
