I'll agree with Death in the Long Grass, Alaska's Wolfman (prob my all time fav) and Panther: And Other Stories of Great Hunting Retrievers

Labyrinth of Ice by Buddy Levy is a MUST read. You don’t know tough until you read about them boys!

Backing the multiple recommendations of Blood Meridian.

Would also heartily recommend My Confession: Recollections of a Rogue” by Samuel Chamberlain. It served as the historical basis for Blood Meridian and is quite the tale in its own right.

Picked up Deep Survival for 4.99. Looks very good. Can't wait to start it.

Ive read the last 2, both are amazing books
Ive enjoyed 'The outpost', 'Alone at Dawn' and The Master Switch.
The Outpost was solid (movie too). Alone at Dawn gives me pause. And truthfully it shouldn't but when accusations muddy things, it's hard to see things for what they are.

I agree with all of the recommendations of Capstick and Louis L'Amour. I would add the below books as worthwhile outdoors/hunting reads.

Meet Mr. Grizzly by Montague Stevens (Englishman who hunted grizzlies with dogs in New Mexico)
Tigrero! by Sasha Siemel (Used dogs and a spear to hunt jaguars)
Jaguar Hunting in the Mato Grosso and Bolivia by A. De Almeida (another spear hunter of jaguars)
Notes of an East Siberian Hunter by A. A. Cherkassov (great book of hunting in Siberia in the 1800s)
Tschiffely's Ride by A. Tschiffely (in 1925 the author rode 2 Argentine criollo horses from Argentina to D.C)
Books by Jim Corbett of hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in India
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy (cowboy novel in Texas and northern Mexico)

Brules: A Novel
Book by Harry B. Combs

Brules: A Novel by Harry B. Combs is a Western epic about a man named Cat Brules, who seeks revenge against the Comanche nation after they murder his loved ones, leading him on a violent journey across the Old West from the 1860s to the early 20th century. The story, framed by an elderly Brules recounting his life to a young man in 1916, details his life as a plainsman, his skills as a tracker and shooter, and his experiences with the changing frontier, including the demise of the buffalo and Native American way of life.

Big Louis L'Amour fan. I have roughly 50 of his western books. But one of my favorites by him is The Walking Drum (oddly enough, one of his non-westerns).

I’ve probably read this five times. An old guy I used to work with gave me a copy. Makes me wish I was born 150 years ago.

I liked The Terror by Dan Simmons. It started slow and was a little confusing, but it really came together at the end.

The River by Peter Heller is great (fiction)
Mountain Drifter by Zach Bowman is also really good. He was on the Shoot2Hunt podcast
