Brules: A Novel
Book by Harry B. Combs

Brules: A Novel by Harry B. Combs is a Western epic about a man named Cat Brules, who seeks revenge against the Comanche nation after they murder his loved ones, leading him on a violent journey across the Old West from the 1860s to the early 20th century. The story, framed by an elderly Brules recounting his life to a young man in 1916, details his life as a plainsman, his skills as a tracker and shooter, and his experiences with the changing frontier, including the demise of the buffalo and Native American way of life.
Definitely ordering this. Sounds right up my alley. Thanks!

Blood and Thunder
Empire of the Summer Moon
3 volume TR Biography… Theodore Rex, Colonel Roosevelt and one more I can’t remember.
The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt is the other one. Outstanding trilogy.

Lately I’ve really gotten into Alan Lemay. While The Searchers is deservedly his signature work, The Unforgiven is hard to put down.

The best one I finished recently, “The mysterious case of Rudolph Diesel”

Part biography and details of one of the most consequential inventions in history- the Diesel motor …..part what it was like in the 1890’s to WWll and who were the influential individuals.
Its very good if you like history.

For you Louis Lamour fans, you might like Last of the Breed. Not a western. It tells the fictional story of Native American United States Air Force pilot Major Joseph Makatozi (Joe Mack), captured by the Soviets over the Bering Strait. The story follows his escape from captivity through the Siberian wilderness as a fugitive.

Last of the Breed by Louis L’Amour.

By far my favorite novel. Read it my freshmen or sophomore year in high school. Then twice more in adulthood. Even read it to my 8 year old daughter a couple years ago. She wouldn’t go to bed without hearing some of it.

“Sacketts Land”, and “To The Far Blue Mountains” by Louis L’Amour. One book split into 2.

“Deep Survival” by Laurence Gonzalez

I mentioned in an earlier post that Last of the Breed by L’Amour is my favorite read of all time. Read it to the daughter a couple years ago.

Well, a couple months ago her and the wife were “rummaging” at a used book store and came across To the Far Blue Mountains and bought it for me and her to read together.

I had no idea it was a follow up to Sacketts Land. Gonna order that one ASAP. Thank you!

Have several long drives this week.
I downloaded Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy (I’ve been working through his early books) and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
