Empire of the Summer Moon was fantastic and very educational for me. It cronicles the rise and end of the Comanches, the last horse tribes of the southern plains. S.C. Gwynne did such a great job that I also picked up and am nearly done with his book Rebel Yell, a very good read about Stonewall Jackson.

I can't say enough good about these books as they opened my eyes to history that I never knew; I'm a product of the public school system you know.

I also enjoyed a Tough Trip Through Paradise 1878-1879. An account of Andrew Garcia's adventure in the Musselshell country. Again, more awesome history for me.

Death in the Longrass is very entertaining and lead me to read a lot of books on African hunting in the early 20th century.

Rebel Yell was great. Jackson was not the person most want to paint him as. I personally think he had Asperger’s syndrome. One of the more complex people our country has produced.

Being from Iowa my whole life, I didn't know shit about the Civil War or really anything about the "South". Rebel Yell was eye opening to say the least.

Turns out I caught a 56 lb bluecat in the James River literally a stone's throw from where McClellan retreated to during the Seven Days battles; Harrison's Landing.

"Hell I was There" by Elmer Keith is pretty good too and partly takes place in the West. It got a little boring for me towards the end though.

One Mans Wilderness was a pretty good read. But the author does come off a little anti hunting, even though he hunts and fishes.

Good on you for reading more on the south. I live in the middle of Jackson’s Shenandoah campaign...you can’t turn a corner without running into some historical event...

Coyote America by Dan Flores should be mandatory for anyone who posts anything about coyote hunting.
American Serengeti - Mr. Flores.
Beast The Color Winter - Douglas Chadwick
Anything by Tony Russ on Dall Sheep
Make Prayers to the Raven - Richard Nelson
Arctic Dreams - Barry Lopez
The Land of Feast and Famine - Helge Ingstad
Bloodties - Ted Kerasote
The Mindful Carnivore - Tovar Cerulli
Alaska's Wolf Man - Jim Reardon (if you only read one make it this! its a big dish a humble pie reading about a real man)

Hillbilly Elegy - J.D. Vance (should be required school reading!)
12 Rules For Life - Jordan Peterson
Maps of Meaning - Jordan Peterson
Extreme Ownership - Jocko
Everyday Millionaires - Chris Hogan
Hero - Meg Meeker (if you're a parent)
All the Dave Ramsey stuff will help you be able to afford more hunting trips so I highly recommend them.

Lord Grizzly by Fredrick Manfred, my favorite rendition of Hugh Glass’s adventure.

Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee by Dee Brown, covers the western Native American conflicts, mentions alot of famous individuals from the Old West.
