Blaser R8 Field Evaluation

I like the stock, it makes me tempted to buy another R8.

Do you know what your rifle weights without the scope?
I can weigh tonight. Compared to the previous professional, the forend is slimmer, the grip more vertical and shorter trigger reach, and obviously adjustable comb.

Professional 2.0 stock, Akila barrel extension with pic rail, 6BR ACE semi weight barrel, OG6-s.
Does the Pro 2.0 Stock , come with a trigger? Or is that a separate purchase?

I have an Ultimate success and am trying to plan out what I need to buy once the Pro 2.0 stock shows up in Canada.

It came with a trigger. Plastic guard and housing vs metal on my professional.

Can you change the guard and housing to metal? I know plastic should work since it goes in car engines, but just curious. Thx.
Half the time the metal trigger guard from my professional is in the 2.0 just because changing the trigger group is easier/faster than changing the magazine insert. So yeah, if you already have a metal one, super easy. I wouldn’t go out and source a metal one just to have a metal one though.

Found my first and real only experienced issue with the R8 today after dropping in my 375H&H barrel. I normally ride my thumb in line with the bore and apply downward pressure with the base to help with sight picture during recoil. This does place my thumb right below and behind the R8 decocker/safety. Never had an issue before until today. But a few times, I’d got to fire my second timed shot and get a click. Turns out the gun was docked.

Here is what I believe is happening. With the 375 recoil, I believe that my thumb is/was hitting the decocker as the gun recoiled. Because of where I’m placing it and how I’m applying pressure, this makes the most sense. I was able to simulate it too and confirm that this would be possible. It would also be possible to decock the gun inadvertently through recoil, still cycle it due to thumb pressure, and then get the click becuase it was still decocked.

Once I figured this out and switched to wrapping my thumb more along the side, no issues. Seems very much a specific circumstantial and technique issue that only would appear with larger rifles. FWIW, the 375 R8 today weighs 9.5lbs with 4 in the gun, and I was shooting 300gr.

This is the first time that I’ve ever had a “problem” with the R8 that is specific to the design location of controls. Nothing else does what the R8 can do for travel, caliber conversion, decocking safety, and sealed from weather when the action is closed, so I view having to change techniques for this gun as more of a minor inconvenience. While frustrating, just throwing this out there if anyone else has experienced this.
