Black ovis/camofire going out of business?

Yeah, it sure looks like he racked up some charges, collected all the airline points in his own name the dropped half a million in unitemized losses as a personal tax write off. Maybe this is normal, but the optics sure aren’t good.
No worries. He is selling gear here in the classifieds. Wonder if RS classified records will get pulled in. Lol. (Truth.)

i get your stance and my original comment was to a dude staking a claim in being part of this and happy about it.

It’s just a terrible situation all around. I hope justice is served to all those negatively affected by these boneheads or some form of it.
"Staking a claim" is a bit of a stretch. When I responded that I felt I was part of the cause of black ovis demise I did so with a wink emoji. I understand that sarcasm can be difficult over text but I tried to make it as obvious as possible. I'm not dumb enough to think that the lack of the few thousand of dollars that I didn't spend at black ovis had anything to do with this.

I can think one thing about the owners who got what they deserve and at the same time feel for the employees who lost their jobs. I have absolutely no joy from the latter. I think we share the same opinion.

In reference to the comment about I must agree with all of any retailers opinions that I spend money at. That is asinine. I am going to spend a bunch of $$ online on hunting gear. I am going to spend that money with retailers who's ethics most align with mine. I (contrary to popular belif on here) will not spend my money with buisnesses that align themselves with convicted poaching influencers. For example, Gohunt is swift at disassociating with poachers. See what they did with muley freak and Lampers. I am less sure if they ever carried bowmar junk but good luck finding any of that stuff on the site now. I happily spent money there even though I am conflicted that they also add to congestion of public lands that I enjoy.

Wait, I've been told for years bankruptcy is a valid business strategy (to include on this forum), why are we so offended all of a sudden?
What.

But, how?

I might have to do some searching. Granted im not a millionaire, so my mind is of a poor. But that is asinine to me.

It is crazy to me and not a sentiment I share. But, I feel I have been told it by many people. However, after searching I can only find one instance on this forum and either remember incorrectly, or remember rancorous threads that got deleted.

Probably best to just assume I've lost my marbles.

Well. To be fair, I could see folks giving that kind of advice here.

It's a pretty known fact that successful business owners will start other companies and operate them at a loss to shield themselves from paying more taxes and having more write offs.

But filing bankruptcy? Who would have thought....

Need a 2 million dollar building? Just file bankruptcy. Lenders will be lined up out the door....🤦‍♂️😂

It's kind of funny that I keep getting emails from them to review my recent purchases...

It was all driven by tariffs!
1. Just because someone publishes an article doesn't mean its true.
2. If your business model is peddling over priced, over seas junk then you shouldn't exist as a company.
3. Ovis is a textbook case of a luxury company that was never going to survive a recession. They have a store in Huntsville, AL in the most expensive retail location in town and two hours away from the nearest fly fishing spot.

Agreed...popped in a few weeks ago and yes, VERY expensive!!!

Agree with all of this. Sounds like no one was shopping at their retail locations so they use this excuse to pass the blame and avoid the negative headlines of having to close all their stores due to no sales. I found it curious to see one of their locations in a very nice shopping mall in Baton Rouge last weekend, doesn't seem like a place fly fisherman would be hanging out. They're basically just a preppy clothing brand selling imported junk now.

Yeah, two completely different companies.

Black Ovis was racking up debt to their domestic vendors just days before declaring bankruptcy, and will now default on most of that debt, which will almost certainly result in numerous small businesses receiving pennies on the dollar of what they were owned, if they're lucky. Hopefully they've planned on it and didnt allow any retailer to have such a large share of their business that they coudlnt afford a situation like this, but it can really seriously hurt any business's result.

Orvis makes a decent size chunk of their store incomes from lifestyle apparel and similar stuff that really has nothing at all to do with fishing or hunting (at least at many of their locations), which is almost universally made overseas and saw 100+% tariffs overnight. At that point you have to throw in the towel if their business model relies on the margin that just went out the window...but it doesn't mean they are defaulting on their debt or going out of business, it means if they no longer have the portion of their assortment mainly sold at those stores, those stores are no longer viable.

Regardless, I feel bad for the folks on the receiving end of either situation.

That makes sense. Outside of their rods, which are excellent, I don't see that many fly fisherman purchase their products, and you can buy the rods at large vendors and fly shops.

I havnt ordered from Black Ovis in years. Just happened to try out a pair of boots a few weeks ago from them and then return, arriving back to BO on the 20th of October. That was an expensive pair of boots to try on. Doubt a refund is coming.
Food for thought, I did the exact same thing and filed a claim with CC. Provided POD and got my $$ back.
