Not every deer is infected. Not every deer dies fast.
Healthy deer can live with it for years before showing signs.

I do a lot of deer hunting in Wisconsin and cwd is only common in certain regions. It's not a concern in most areas of the state. I've never seen a deer with cwd and I hunt all over in the state

Agreed, the hotbed seems to be in Iowa county, far SW WI.
I haven’t hunted there since college (2010ish), but adjacent Grant county had good deer. Managed to shoot an 8 point on a permission piece so close to campus, my roommate heard the shot while walking to his 8am class, texted me “get one?” Good times.
I mostly hunt south Central and SE WI now, only had one skinny/sick looking deer on cam in recent years.
