Big Buck Killed in WI

Nice buck. I had no idea WI had an extended metro rifle season. Can’t find anything about the extended season in the regulation book either.

Never point a firearm at something unless you know what it is. In a semi perfect world at worst, it should have read “I saw a bush moving and raised my binoculars to observe what may be afoot. Alas, my quest may come to a conclusion , as the buck that has been eluding me for years was now within reach”

Easy there Mark Twain.

Why shameful?
Are you kiddin me?? If you dont know what something is you damn sure dont look to see thru a rifle scope. What if it had been another hunter settling in for a morning hunt with a set of rattling antlers? Could be a totally different story. Verify first with eyes or binos. Know BEFORE you put the scope on it. Just plain common sense.

1000004738.jpgThere is a big difference from hunting public land or a 200 acre farm. On private property, when you know where any other hunters are, a shaking bush in gun range means get ready to shoot. If this was on public land it would be very irresponsible. On private you keep your finger off the trigger and get ready to shoot.

FFS. He was on private land and the bush was 50 yards away. It's very likely he could tell it was deer but couldn't make out the antlers with branches/bush in the way. Pretty typical scenario in thick woods.

Heck of a deer. Congrats to the hunter.

I can’t say I disagree with you. I also can’t say I agree with you.
Niche forums are generally full of experts who, generally, give very little movement outside the boundaries of perfection.
It’s hard to really explain it, but people can be very judgemental and that gets a lot worse when they are experts.

200 acres of private land is not a lot. There also
“Shouldn’t” be anyone you don’t know about on your tract private land. If that were the case people would never be charged with trespassing or poaching , bc people would never be on private land they weren’t supposed to be. But they do, quite a bit, and I’d expect a higher propensity of poaching at the end of the season when someone hasn’t filled a tag yet and they know you got a good spot.

Truth is, facts stand. People may still very much be on your private land, and you don’t use a rifle and scope as a spotting scope or binoculars. But, we weren’t in his stand holding his rifle wearing his boots, what happened exactly may not be translated fully into words.
At the end of the day, beautiful buck, no one hurt.

public or private doesn't matter. Trying to identify anything thru a scope mounted on a loaded rifle is flat out stupid and irresponsible. Any true hunter or sportsman that thinks differently I don't want anywhere near me.

Well at 50 yards you don’t need to look through the scope to see those antlers in a bush LOL.
Although I never looked at unknown objects through my scope.
My brother had a guy looking at him through his rifle scope this year on public while standing on a power line and he was pretty upset about that moron.
