Best I've found for woods carry of my Glock 20 is the Bianchi UM 84/92 Universal Military Holster in a cross draw on my hip. In this fashion the gun is completely protected from larch needles, mud, and rocks even if I am sliding down a hill on my butt. It is completely secure as well, and quick and easy to get to. Also, in seconds it can be removed from your pack belt and placed on the belt of your pants or anywhere your back or chest pack has webbing for that matter (not sure why you would want it anywhere else though if your chest is already covered with your binoculars and a range finder).

Do you know if a G20 with a 6" barrel will fit in that holster?

No, it would not. I think a 5" barrel would be about the max. As it is, with the 4 1/2" stock sized barrel, the holster fits snuggly, but it is still easy to remove the top flap of the holster. With a 5" barrel, even though I think it could fit, there would no doubt be some more tension on the flap, making it a little harder to open quickly.

ive ran into a couple bears in my time. But never the less this question is (directed but not limited to the NW crowd)...since we dont have many if any grizzlys (washington specifically) and myself being a new bow hunter (always rifle hunted until this year) is a sidearm really necessary with black bears? My experience has always been that they are extremely skiddish and as soon as they spot you, scent you or even hear you they tend to bail...

i dont carry a side arm while bow hunting ,washington guy here, but im not bringing one to Idaho this year either. i hunt solo, stay in the wilderness for weeks at a time and feel no need to have one. just me and my bow. some guys just cant get comfortable with out one back there and if its what you need than carry it. what i always find funny is lots of time the same guys will go into Seattle or you name the big city not carrying a side arm and think nothing of it. where do you think your more likely to need your pistol?

If MT concealed carry permit reciprocity included the city, I would carry. Actually, more often than not, I have a pistol in the woods for unpredictable people. Never needed it, probably never will. But sometimes I feel a bit like a target when I am out alone with a few thousand dollars worth of gear on my back and in my truck. An easily accessed and obvious weapon could be worth a thousand words if an unsavory person is encountered.

Based on reccomendations in this thread, I ordered a bladetech for my S&W 329PD. I had it in about a week, and is very nice. A bit heavier than the holster I was using, but it is really nice to be able to take the holster quickly off my pack and attach it to my belt if needed.

Back to the original subject...I derailed a bit this morning.

This past weekend I decided to modify a holster for my Glock 29. I split the main seam on a Blackhawk 06 belt clip holster so I could sew through the back panel. I pulled out the belt clip and attached three 3 bar slider tabs. Two that go over and down on the top row of pals webbing and one that goes under and up on the bottom. Now my holster fits perfectly on my kifaru belt. It fits really tight and is adjustable/ removable.

charvey9, I'm really thinking about one of these as well. How is it for keeping your revolver in place while bouncing it around like if you were running up a hill to cut off some elk? Not that I do that, but I'm always doing something dumb like that so I just worry about my gun being there no matter what. I know fillthefreezer likes his, but it's always nice to get a few different perspectives. Did you get a OWB with tek-lok?
