Best ultralight bag for the tosser and turner?

No offense taken at all. My initial reasoning for a quilt was just that. I had it set up correctly, slept in my merino's, yet still felt old in 15* weather. Pad wasn't the best R value either. With all the tossing and turning, I still slept better my mummy. I was sure the EE would solve my problems, but now have just decided on a bag which has worked the best for me over the years. I find myself reading every article I can find and it seems that Kifaru, WM, and EB bags keep popping up. Just need a little help making the choice that I won't regret.

I just spent a week in a 0* EE quilt and needed the hood. Was toasty despite frosty nights.

Good point. I always wear my fleece hat when I sleep under the stars, even during the summer time. I also wear my thin merino or silk base layers to bed as well.......regardless of the temps out.

I will throw the WM Ponderosa in the mix to look at. I'm trying a quilt this year and if that doesn't work it's either a Ponderosa or a FF bag.

Stomach sleeper and terrible tossed and turner. I've seriously had some relationships hit their breaking point over how much I toss and turn. I always had problems getting twisted up in mummy bags. I also had difficulty staying on the pad. The quilt really helped address these problems since I can toss, turn and twist without taking the bag with me. That fact that it attached to the pad helps keep me on the pad.

Thanks for all the replies. They are all very helpful. I'm leaning towards the Montbell at the moment. Would you Montbell guys say that their thermal rating holds true?

I've got an Xterm maxx now, so I should be good. Drafts with the quilt bugged me more than the pad.

I'd say my down one is pretty close and my two synthetics are better than advertised. The synthetics really stretch but are kind od heavy.

I haven't used it a ton, but my down hugger seemed to match temp ratings. The stretch on these bags is really worth it.

I agree with Rockchuck about the #1 being a bit warmer than advertised.
Going to get myself a #3 soon.

I think that's because 650 and 800 fill bags, not the 900 fill. I can't find the 900 fill lighter weight "best" bags anywhere for under $550.

Did you use two straps on your quilt? If not, that's why you had drafts. A couple elastic bands eliminates this issue completely and costs alot less than $550.00 but i do recommend buying one of these too. Huge difference when the temps plummet. Hoodlum - Lightweight Climashield Synthetic Hood / Balaclava

Select the 2oz version.

Yes, I used the straps. I'm sure I threw in the towel on my quilt before I should have, but honestly I can't see a justifiable difference between zipping my bag down half or 3/4 if needed and using it as a quilt. I actually did this the last 3 nights in the wilderness, but temps we're ridiculously warm. Slept great. Anyhow, being a 1st class gear whore, I'm trying to limit the amount of things that sit in closets 99% of the time and I feel for myself, the quilt would be just that. I ask: When you sleep at home each night in your bed, do you leave the sheets tucked in? I don't and most times have parts wrapped around the edge. I think the quilt would be great for the "sheet tucked in" kind of sleeper. Myself, I like idea of the Montbell or similar designed bag that gives me those capabilities better. No right or wrong way, just looking for options since a good amount of my time this fall will be on the hill.

Yeah that link was to a 650 fill, so not the "ul" model with higher fill rating, thus it will be cheaper and heavier. Mine are 800 fill and were the last year before they went to spiral stitch pattern. Great bags for the roller/tosser!

+1 for quilts. I use a kelty coromell 20* 99% of the time. It's a semi mummy bag with no hood. I keep it unzipped except for a foot box. I'm also in the process of making a diy woobie for summer use or to push it colder paired together

For mummy's, I'd look at the Western Mountaineering semi-rec bags or the Montbells. I have both and sleep well in each as a side sleeper.
