Hey guys,
Im looking for the best thermal clip on i can get my hands on for under $1000. Its going on an AR pistol platform in 556. Going to be used for the occasional hog and coyote hunting up to 200 yards and in, most shots probably being 100 yards and in. Daytime LPVO that will be mounted in front is a Vortex Strike Eagle 1 - 8 x 24mm SFP. Only feature i really care about is the SAR, mainly because I know jack about thermals and thats the only feature I know i want haha. The one ive been eyeing up is the AGM 19-256 Rattler-C V2 but im totally in the wind on what I should be getting. Im also open to getting a nice used clip on if i can get a better quality optic while in that price range. Let me know what yall nighttime spooky guys think, any info is appreciated. Thanks

Take a look at the DNT Hydra Series, I think you'll find these offerings to be exceptional for the price point.

The DNT Hydra is a 3-in-1 multi-function thermal scope that can be used as a standalone rifle scope, a clip-on thermal sight, or a handheld monocular us.dntoptics.com+1. The clip-on version is designed to attach to your existing daytime optics (LPVOs or low-magnification prism scopes) and instantly convert them into a thermal sight.

Key Features

  • 3-in-1 versatility: Works as a standalone scope, clip-on thermal sight, or handheld monocular
  • Clip-on compatibility: Fits LPVOs and low-magnification prism optics. For best performance, use in the lower half of your LPVO’s magnification range
  • Thermal sensor: 12μm ≤18mK sensor with AI-powered Image Super Resolution (ISR) to improve clarity after digital zoom
  • Display: 1024×768 Micro-OLED in standalone mode; handheld monocular weighs ~13.1–13.7 oz
  • Build quality: CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminum, IP67 waterproof, recoil-resistant up to .50 BMG
  • Mounting: QDM150 quick detach mount for rifle use; PMS Picatinny mount included for some models
  • Power: Interchangeable flat-top 18650 batteries, rechargeable, long cycle life
  • Optional LRF: Hydra-LRF models include a laser rangefinder (5–1,300 yards) and DNT Ballistic Engine for drop compensation

Clip-On Use

  • Installation: Attach the Hydra to your LPVO using the QDM150 mount.
  • Operation: Switch between thermal and optical modes via the scope’s controls.
  • Advantages: No re-zeroing needed when switching between rifle-mounted and handheld use
