Best Mule Deer Photo Contest

Robby have you ever hunted Blacktail in the woods of the Sierra's?
To me, this is the greatest buck hunting challenge there is in North America.
After hunting Blacktail all my life Mule deer just seem a lot easyer.
But then again I have never hunted Mule deer with horses in the snow during the rut.
So what do I know?

I'd agree the ones that live their whole lives in cover would be very difficult to hunt. Once glassing is removed from the equation and only tracking, still-hunting, and ambush are left, hunting gets really tough. Does that describe hunting them in the Sierras?

Here is "10, 11, 12" the Idaho general season buck I shot on 10/11/12. The shot was 385 yards (laying down on my backpack) and I pulled the trigger with my left finger. The sun glare was so bad I had to use my right hand as a visor to look through my scope. The shot felt a little awkward having to tell my left finger to slowly squeeze but I had a good rest and harvested this 28 inch buck. When I saw this picture I was excited to see how well it depicted the moment of the shot. Thanks to Vandal for being there on the hunt and, of course, spotting him for me.

This buck (11,11,12) is the Colorado deer I shot during the 3rd season on the last day of the hunt exactly 1 month after the Idaho buck. Unfortunately he was the biggest buck I saw during the week long hunt.

Yes that describes most of it. When you find the darkest,nastiest,thickest forest you have found trophy blacktail country.
They are tough to hunt but they are also a ton of fun.
