Ok, so with all the gear everyone has tested and used throughout the years I’d like to see what everyone has concluded as being their “best” gear. You only get ONE answer per topic and a short one liner of why you think so.

  1. Pack
  2. Shelter
  3. Sleeping Pad
  4. Boots
  5. Cooking Device
  6. Optic
I’m thinking there is going to be a ton of redundant answers but every once in a while someone has a curve ball answer that might get people interested in taking a look at different gear.

I will start

  1. Pack- Kifaru Bikini Frame and Dt2 = it’s a Kifaru, need I say more
  2. Shelter – Kifaru Paratarp = Light, versatile and great with just a bivy
  3. Pad – Exped UL7 = Light , durable and comfy
  4. Boots – Asolo Sasslong = They fit well and have held up great for 2 seasons
  5. Cooking – MSR Pocket Rocket = Its my old faithful for cooking. Never had had one issue and its light as sin
  6. Optic – Meopta Meostar HD binos = Currently don’t own but looked thru Arons yesterday and beyond great glass! Owning soon!

Best to fit my budget at the time of my first elk hunt.
  1. Pack MR Glacier with KIfaru Grabit....Likely SG Xcurve for next year
  2. Shelter Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter LT
  3. Sleeping Pad Nemo 3" don't remember model name
  4. Bag Big Agnes Encampment 15 degree long/wide
  5. Boots Meindl Denali
  6. Cooking Device MSR Pocket rocket
  7. Optic Vortex 8.5 x 50's
